We went to Bar Harbor June 1997. Every place has lobster and all seemed good. We really enjoyed the harbor cruise that was narrated, saw lots of seals and even an eagle standing on the rocks with the seals. The cruise was narrated. Wish we had brought binoculars. I would try to see the sunrise on top of Cadillac Mtn, we didn't but it was probably worth it. It would be nice to have a picnic and enjoy the view from the top. It's very beautiful see lots of islands and the ocean. MDI Carvers in downtown BH has supplies for decoy carvers and has some beautiful decoys on display that the owner has carved. Different from your usual tourist shop. Don't forget to try steamed clams and real chowder. Have fun.

We have camped on MDI both this summer and last. Try the Golden Anchor Restaurant. It's on the pier, no roof but surrounded by plexiglass to protect you from the wind. It's our favorite! Watch the boats come in and the sun go down....beautiful! The restaurant right beside it was good also. It's out in the open but no plexiglass(gets real breezy) and less formal. By formal I mean you are served on paper plates and get your food when yoyr number is called. Go to the visitors center at Acadia and purchase the booklet with maps of the carriage trails. Its 4.50 and gives distances and degree of difficulty of each trail. Great for walking or biking. Rent a conoe at Long Pond. Gorgeous lake formed by glaciers years ago. We were disappointed with whale watch. 100.00 for family of four and only saw the backs of the whales. Can't wait to go back next year! Have fun!

I was just up there last weekend - totally gorgeous area! Definitley ride bikes or hike the carriage trails at the park if you can. But beware - some of the carriage trails are under construction, and if you don't pay attention, you may find yourself having to backtrack up a mountain to return to your original spot. We ended up having to take our bikes out of the park and onto Route 3 to get back to our car! (didn't want to go back up Mount Cadillac again) As far as a little side trip, follow Route 1 south and visit the small harbor towns of Belfast and Camden - very quaint and picturesque, lots of antique stores on the way, and many cafes and restaurants to chose from.
If you're into sea kayaking, there are all sorts of places to sign up in Bar Harbor. Check out Seal Harbor and Northeast Harbor too - they're smaller and a little less touristy.
