ausable chasm ny and more
Hello travelers
Does anyone have any info to share about Ausable Chasm in NY? We are hoping to visit next weeek. Then we are taking the ferry to Vermont. We're planning a visit to the Shelburne Museum for a day or 2 before heading to NH and the Conway scenic railroad.
Would love any feedback or info regarding this itinerary, places to see, stay and eat.
Thanks for all of your suggestions.

Ausable Chasm is a nice walk thru a gorge with a short boat ride at the end. Check the price and compare with NH's Flume. We went to AC a couple of years ago. A piece of twisted steel walkway is on display. The chasm was wrecked during flooding some years ago so it's impressive to see the power of water. They have to use rubber rafts now instead of the old wooden boats I remember from the 60s. The Shelburne Museum is great. If you want to make a loop thru northern VT, the Great Vermont Corn Maze is a lot of fun and very challenging. It's in Danville. After that you can eat at the Miss Lyndonville diner and cross over into Littleton NH and have ice cream at the place in the old Victorian house. Then head south, cross the Kancamagus Hwy to Conway. If you do the corn maze, plan on at least 2-3 hours. If you are taking the ferry to Burlington, Church St is a great area to shop and eat. We usually eat at the restaurant run by the Culinary Institute but we haven't been in a couple of years.

I know you posted about Ausable Chasm and just mentioned the Shelburne museum. but I wanted to add a comment about Shelburne. When I was there, the admission price included a 2 day visit. If that's still true, definitely split your visit into 2 days. There is so much to see--from fine art, to carousels,a lighthouse, a ship, a furnished 1950s house--that it would really be too much in one day. IIRC, some parts were only open certain days? I know that Carousel rides were at very specific limited times. Also, it is pretty spread out and walking from place to place or waiting for the trolley that goes throughout the property takes up some time, plus if its hot outside...

Thank you for that info. After reading about Shelburne I realized how extensive it is and was planning on 2 days. I am gald to hear that is correct, and that it may take even longer, but that is not possible for us this time. Hope this heat wave breaks!
