KKCR is a rural community radio station -- volunteer-operated and listener-supported (no commercials!). Each of us who are on-air, have autonomy when it comes to what songs we play (as long as we stay within the prescribed format). From midnight to 7am every day, the music is auto-supplied by our computerized Hawaiian music library. Weekdays 7am to 11am you'll get real, live programmers spinning the tunes, giving local surf & weather reports, and the daily community events calendar.
KKCR offers a widely diverse selection of music, plus talk shows. We do our best to represent the multi-cultural community of this beautiful island.
KKCR is at 3 spots on the radio dial, due to our only being able to hoist up smallish transmission equipment:
90.9 northshore
92.7 Moloa`a and Anahola
91.9 everywhere else on Kaua`i & Ni`ihau
104.7 north & west side of O`ahu
We also broadcast online, 24/7:
http://www.kkcr.org
I'm on-air Wednesday & Friday 7-9am (HST), and occasionally fill in for other morning programmers too. My focus is "anything Hawaiian, but no reggae!" 8-) From old to new...including my tracks from my extensive collection of Hawaiian vinyl albums.
Got a song or musician you want to hear? Email your requests. Questions about Hawaiian music or musicians? Drop me a line anytime.

Auntie: I enjoy listening to KKCR when on Kauai, and via the internet.
We were on Kauai in May, and I wanted to stop by the station and get a T-Shirt. We thought it was kind of behind the Hanalei police station, but the officer we asked acted like he had never heard of the KKCR station! I take it that visitors may not be appropriate? We also asked a KKCR volunteer who also volunteers at the Kilauea Lighthouse, but she seemed to discourage visitors as well. Just curious...
Other Fodorites might be interested to know that T-shirts are available via the KKCr website (where I got mine!), as well as KKCR-via-internet.

Billlllllllllllly -- yes, call when you're settled in so we can all get together!
As for KKCR t-shirts, I'll see if we have anymore remaining from the station's last pledge drive, and will cheerfully sell you as many as you need. Buy them as gifts for all the folks on that long shopping list of yours!
As for visiting KKCR, appointments are required (staff members give the full 5-cent tour): 826-7774 And we'll give you easy directions to find the station.
See you next week, BillyBoy! 8-)
