Atlanta visit

Thanks for all your help with recommendations on places to see and restaurants to enjoy. I love to read trip reports but I find that I am not very good at writing them.
Lodging:
We stayed at The Georgian Terrace. It has gotten some terrible reviews on TA and I was very worried. We got a great rate - under 150.00 a night! When we arrived they upgraded us to a two bedroom suite! WOW! Now, the other rooms on the floor were being renovated and this one had not been completed so the furniture was a little dinged up but it was so spacious and clean. They did not work on the other rooms over the weekend and we did not hear them at all on Monday and Tuesday. We have nothing but good to say! The bar was great and sitting out on the patio and looking over at the Fox theater was an experience to be remember. What an historic hotel!
Activites:
We went to the Georgia Aquarium - we loved the dolphin show and didn't mind paying the extra to do this! It was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone. My Mom was screaming right along with the kids.
The High museum was good, but we didn't have much time to do this as it was closed on Monday which was our only other available day. The Picasso to Warhol exhibit was great if you like modern art.
We visited the Botanical gardens and were so impressed. The area is just lovely and they have done such a nice job with the holidays coming up - the scarecrows were hilarious. We all agreed that if we lived in Atlanta we would have a season pass. We also attended the Falcons game - not much to say there, it was a football game. It was my Mom's first professional game and has always been on her bucket list so we enjoyed every minute of it.
Restaurants:
Our food was awesome! I have to say that I am so glad that I was talked into Canoe!! If you go to Atlanta you have to eat here! The setting, the service, the food - unbelievable! We eat at lots of good restaurants and this is one of the best! Walking around the grounds with a drink and just watching the chef prepare the food was so relaxing. We all had some type of fish as our entree (tile and salmon). I had the heirloom tomatoes appetizer,my Mom had the beets with whipped goat cheese, and my husband had she- crab soup with sherry on the side. Yummy.
We ate at Bistro Nikko and really enjoyed the meal, but it was a little loud. It was very typical of good french country food. Our other meal was at Livingstone's at the hotel and we did really enjoy that as we were tired after the football game. Nothing could compare to Canoe!
We loved our trip to Atlanta and realized that it is close enough that we should go more often.

Yay! Glad you enjoyed the trip. SO glad you enjoyed Canoe. I really think it's one of the nicest experiences in Atlanta. The grounds down to the river is just gorgeous. As I said earlier, I'm still thinking about the tomato soup (made from heirloom tomatoes) I had last time.

The location of the Georgian Terrace can't be beat. You lucked up in getting the suite. Years ago they were converting it to condos and when they didn't sold they went back to the hotel concept. I used to rent one of the one bedroom suites with kitchen for the night of an annual event. I'd have a cocktail party there before and really got to visit with people I'd not seen in a long time. Wish you had the chance to see something at the Fox. It's a gorgeous theater.

I LOVE Scarecrows in the Garden. Some of the most creative/ funniest "scarecrows" ever! On a beautiful fall day, there is not a better way to spend a day in Atlanta.

Glad you enjoyed your trip to Atlanta! Come back soon!

Atlanta really is a great food town ... so glad you liked Canoe! Depending on where you are from and your food preferences, I at least love Buford Highway and the ethnic offerings that I don't find here (live near Charleston). Korean, Indian, great Thai, Vietnamese, etc.

Lots of other things to do as well -- Atlanta makes a great week end destination without traveling too too far. And it's usually 10 degrees cooler than here.

Hi to Starrs!

Hi birgator!

Next time you are here, let's hit "Chambodia"

If you have more time than a weekend and are coming in the summer, head on up to the mountains too. They are usually 10 degrees cooler than Atlanta.
