Amazing Race - Sep 17 Episode

Wow, what a great start to the season! I think this is the best one in a while.

I like the "surprises", the harder challenges, good mix of teams.

Too bad the Muslim and East Indian teams were eliminated. I would have been interested in seeing more of them and their dynamic. Looks like team work is going to a big factor in this series.

The challenges seem a lot more physical, maybe that's why there isn't an "older" team.

I like all the teams pretty much. Even the cheerleaders & beauty queens aren't irritating screechers like the pink bimbos or Glamizons of the last series.

The only team I'm not so fond of is the ironman team. At first I was really rooting for them, and even the first to board the plane thing didn't bother me. But when she outright lied to get a taxi (saying it was an emergency with her leg), I stopped liking them. I know it's a race but I think teams can play & win without lieing. I think not answering questions or avoiding helping others is fair play but outright lieing turns me off.

Enjoy-la!

LOVED it!
I don't know who I'm rooting for yet. However, I have a feeling the cheerleaders will get on my nerves soon with their 'cheerleading clapping' all the time. LOL.

It's certainly a PC group of contestants! Blacks, whites, Asians, Indians, Muslims, gays, airheads, handicapped. Looks like the only group they've left out are the old folks.
Didn't take long to narrow the field to 10.

Of course those two Muslim guys from Clevand got axed. Did you notice how fat they were?? This is a RACE. Only the young, fit, and lean will survive.

I thought the show was a big BORE. I saw more of the inside of cabs than any scenery. This show is about TRAVEL? I think not, it is about eating fish eyeballs and making people look stupid or evil.

There is nothig real about reality T.V.

I liked the daughter and dad team from Rhode Island.

I liked the iron man team but I thought she was really over the top with the emergency thing with her leg and the taxi.

I know the single moms were mad about the preboarding thing but really they all had tickets and assigned seats so who cares who gets on the plane first. That would not bothered me. You have to be more concerned about the stuff that matters and not get into the head games part of TAR.
I had to laugh during the individual interviews with the teams when the coal miner’s wife said she didn’t think her husband was interested in her because he was so good looking. Clearly an eye of the beholder situation. It was very sweet.

I don’t know if I would have been able to scale the wall or not. It looked really hard. Also did any of you catch the taxi instructions that dark haired gal gave the driver? Do you know how to get to the wall – the Great Wall….of China. Like the driver would not have known the China part!!! How hilarious was that?????

Us older people rarely get represented on shows like Amazing Race and Survivor because advertisers don't much care for us. Our allegience to brands makes it so corporations don't waste ad dollars trying to get us to buy their products. Younger people are more pliable and open to attaching themselves to a new brand. Thus younger people predominate these sorts of shows. People like old Rudy Boesch of Survivor 1 won't be seen again. Even the older couple on Amazing Race a couple of seasons ago, Meredith and Gretchen, were a rarity.

Favorite show-Loved it!! I'm rooting for Team Kentucky even though I don't think they will make it that far.

What about the last Amazing race (#9)? Fran and Barry made it further than Gretchen and Meredith. Only 5 teams beat Fran and Barry. They were 61 and 63 during the race. I think lots of people admired at how strong they were throughout the race

The other dopey comments:

"Do Muslims like Buddha?" (from one of the cheerleaders, I think)
"Ninja time" (or something similar) from one of the two "recovering addict" guys when approaching the Great Wall.

I liked the Indian couple. Don't like the dating couple with the brunette. I think the producers are setting them up to be the team you love to hate.

I liked Vipul and Arti - wish I could have seen more of them.

The Bickering Couple are grating on my nerves, but Duke and Lauren were a pleasant surprise - I was expecting lots of angst, but they seem very focused on the race.

Dear dawgs~ such an interesting and diverse group.. if nothing else, these couples guarantee a few weeks of good old fashioned belly laughs!

I am not sure my husband would have the patience. He hates to be rushed and I'm type A while he is definitely more laid back and easy going.

I can envision one of my friends and I wearing hats because we have that uncooperative hair that does not hold up well unless it's dry desert conditions.. oh, the horror,lol...
I watched alone last night and could not stop the tears and a Depends, when one of the members had some trouble scaling the wall. I wanted to immediately lower him and give him a hug and a big dacquiri for his bravery. But yay, he did get on top!!

My other good friend would be looking at single guys and much too unfocused. but her backside tattoo would get attention, I am sure!
So much easier to be an observer right? Have a terrific day, J.

I agree with so much that has already been said. I'm very sad that Vipul and Arti are gone. They seemed like a couple I'd like to root for.

I, too, caught the "Great Wall . . . of China" comment and completely rolled my eyes. Although, I found the stunt with squirt GUNS in an AIRPORT by supposed Harvard and NYU grads to be equally, if not more, idiotic.

The fact that they did that leads me to believe these two have not done enough traveling. I could not even believe they took squirt guns to the airport. How is it that neither of them thought that might be a problem? Also how far did they get with them? Were they past the security checkpoint by then?

I'm sure we will be in for a season full of dopey comments. I missed the "Ninja time" comment. However, I did see the way the man looked at the muslim couple while in the restaurant. He looked at them and shook his head. I though he was thinking "oh, stupid Americans". Who knows, maybe it was an editing trick and he was shaking his head at something else, doubt it though, they were acting kind of foolish. Also, I learned something from team muslim, I did not know that they didn't shake hands with women? Very interesting. I also said it TAR is trying to be very politcally correct with picking thier team, right down to a coal minor team (after all the accidents last year). Bravo to them I guess, but thier intentions are so obvious.
No team is really on my nerves yet, that is always good. I also hope the cheerleading claps stop, although it was funny when the gay team was clapping with them. As far as who I like best, not sure. I'm liking the father/daughter team...I usually go with the ones that make the least dumb/rude comments. Sarah, was unbelievable at climbing that wall, she is an inspiration. So far, so good!!

If I saw anyone take out a squirt gun, I'd probably keel right over.. who knows with the liquid ban what they would attempt.. probably the fact that they were filming for the show made it okay for a "friendly warning" from security, but anyone else?

Arrested, strip searched, hot nacho cheese poured on them I'm sure!

My favorites were your favorites, Suzie. I had to ask my husband if the coalminer's wife had actually just said that the husband was too good looking to pay attention to her(pre-dating and marriage, of course.) Eye of the beholder, indeed. She seemed genuinely nice.

And Great Wall - you know, Great Wall OF CHINA. Hilarious.

I noticed that they didn't have an older couple this time....which I think is too bad because it shows the rest of the world, that just because you're over 50, you're not just sitting on a rocker....

Great start-love TAR!
Funnily enough I happened to catch the 2005 Ironman on TV a few weeks ago and watched Sarah finish-it was AMAZING. Imagine my surprise to see her on TAR.
Cheerleaders annoy big time...they should talk about something besides the fact that they are, indeed, cheerleaders.
I thought the rovering addicts/models story was pretty cool-did you see those photos of them when they were junkies? Crazy.
