Alternative to Columbia River Gorge Hotel Needed
We tried to book the Columbia River Gorge Hotel (Oregon) for Sept. 28 & 29th and it was full. We would appreciate recommendations for another nice place in that area. Is Edgefield close? Thanks very much.

The CGH is in Hood River and the Edgefield is in Troutdale. The two towns are close to 50 miles apart. Are you wanting to be in Hood River or are you just wanting to be somewhere close enough to see the general gorge area? If you just want to see the gorge, then yes the Edgefield is a great location for that. Other options not far from the Edgefield include Bridal Veil Lodge and View Point Inn.

Troutdale is fifty miles from Hood River.
There is no other place like Columbia River Gorge Hotel in Hood River.
We stay in Hood River at Best Western Hood River Inn. It's a pretty standard motel except that one of the buildings has balconies right on the river.
If you ask for a room on the top floor of that building, you will have a vaulted ceiling. (To guarantee this, you must book directly with the hotel.)
Rooms come with refrigerator, coffee maker, and microwave.
We like to have dinner at Celilo in down town Hood River, which has big city atmosphere and food.
There is no other place like Columbia River Gorge Hotel in Hood River.

My husband and I stayed here this past October (this is an excerpt from my trip report):
In Hood River, we stayed at the Inn at the Gorge (http://www.innatthegorge.com/ ) which was charming. It is located several blocks from the main area of town, but was walkable. Our room was the Cascade Suite which had a mini-kitchen and sofa in one room and a bedroom with bath. The bed was comfy and the sheets and towels were nice. The breakfasts were amazing….huge and delicious. John likes to bake. Some examples from the menu: ginger pear coffee cake, lots of fresh fruit, spinach and cheese quiche, lox/cream cheese/dill frittata, sweet potato pancake, and various homemade breads. The hosts were also helpful with dinner and hiking recommendations.

The B & B looks very nice, thanks. I'm kind of intrigued by the Columbia Gorge Riverside Lodge in Stevenson, WA. Tripadvisor folks complain about the trains, otherwise it looks great. Has anyone stayed there?
