I flew out of Orlando recently and none of my bags were checked either.

BTW, write LETTERS to your representatives because I've been told by many excellent Congressional and Senate staffers that they do not read e-mail most of the time, but take actual letters very seriously.

Uh oh. Airline security on the ground is substantially worse than security in the air. I wouldn't have thought it possible, but it's true.

Did you know that FAs and pilots have to walk through the metal detector like passengers, but ground crews (mechanics, etc.) have no daily security check at all? All you have to do is have a badge and swipe it into a machine to get access. You don't even have to be the person entitled to use the badge. At most or maybe even all airports, there's no metal detector or security guards to prevent a ground worker from putting a bomb on a plane, a gun on a plane, box cutters on a plane, or from sabotaging a plane.

Check out today's Washington Post.

I am calling my Senators and Reps today, to tell them I'll be happy to pay for El-Al type security. I encourage everyone else too.

Ex Passenger: I didn't make my statement directed to you.
I was hoping that I would be helping many people that I have noticed in the last week on several posts that seemed to be at a loss for ideas.
Sorry you think I was picking on you.

To Huh--You are absolutely correct, but why does this information have to be made public so that any terrorist reading can get even more ideas? This applies to both you and the Post. Hopefully, the lawmakers in Congress will recognize the security flaws and act to correct them, but please don't give terrorists any more ideas in the meantime!

Terrorists don't read the Washington Post? Well, you could knock me over with a feather.

The only people who are unaware of the gaping holes in US airport security are the traveling public.

You know, airport security does not have to stink.

This week's New Yorker carried a story about airport security, so El Al was discussed, of course. A few years ago, they caught someone with a bomb in their luggage. The traveler was a citizen, young, female and obviously pregnant. You see, her boyfriend planted the bomb in her suitcase. El Al discovered the bomb because of the detailed questioning of passengers that they do.

Does anyone here have any doubt that, had this occurred in the U.S., the girlfriend would have been allowed to board, and the plane would have been blown to bits?
