Advice needed

At the end of August, between a few days in Boston and the visit of some boardings schools in New England for our son, we are planning to spend the weekend from Friday morning to Monday morning in Maine.

Where should we go, where should we spend our nights to get the maximum out of this short trip?

Any suggestion is welcome. Thanks.

mathfranco: My advice isn't anything to do w/ your trip.

I would re-post with a better title. "Advice needed" could be asking anything about anywhere in the USA.

You might get useful suggestions, but a title something like "Help w/ long weekend in Maine?" wil attract folks who know about Maine . . . .

Although Bar Harbor is a wondeful suggestion, it's a long trip from Boston, especially with summer weekend traffic.

I would suggest staying on the Southern coast of Maine. Ogunquit, Wells or the Kennebunks all have a variety of accommodations. I'd try to book quickly...August is the height of the season here.

I have some knowledge of boarding schools in New England (my daughter is in admissions at one of them ;-) ) so if you could give us an idea of where you will be in NE, there might be some other options for a weekend getaway.

mathfranco, Kennebunkport is a charming and lovely town ..... and maybe you'd see George & Barb in one of the coffee shops!

Thanks for the valuable inputs. Yes, next time I am going choose a more meaningful headline...

As far as the schools are concerned, MarionCK: We have appointments at Exeter, Andover and Deerfield. Milton did not respond yet.
After that, we are going to travel to NYC for a few days before we fly back to Europe.
Any remarks?

Thanks, mathfranco

Just over an hour away from Boston is Ogunquit, ME, which would be your best bet for a wide variety of places to stay, including many nice B&Bs, and fine restaurants. You can always travel up the coast to Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, etc. even up to Portland, which is 45 mins. away.
Enjoy your stay....
