4th of July in Westchester/NYC/Long Island
I will be in NY for the 4th of July. I will be visiting family in Westchester County, NYC, and all over Long Island.
Me, my husband (both 28 yrs old) and my 18 yr old neice are looking for exciting fireworks. But we may decide to take my 10 & 12 yr old niece and nephew also.
Could anyone give us ideas for adult fun and kid fun? This way we are prepared wheather we take the kids or not.
Thanks.
Christine

The best fireworks ever are in NYC right by the Statue of Liberty. It's always a madhouse trying to see them, though. I'd recommend going to Liberty State Park in Jersey City (right off the NJ TPK, only about 10 mins from the Holland Tunnel) or Battery Park City in NYC. Just be prepared for a lot of crowds! The fireworks there are really fabulous, though.
If you do go to Liberty State Park, there is a wonderful new science museum there (Liberty Science Center) that would be fun for kids (or adults alike). If you go to Battery Park City, there's always fun stuff to do in Manhattan for kids or adults. Either destination would be excellent.
Have fun!

For the kids, there is also the Bronx Zoo, a short drive from Westchester. While on Long Island, I'm sure your family will suggest one of the many beautiful ocean beaches from Jones Beach to Montauk for day trips. On the north shore of LI you can take ferries to connecticut. They have day trips to Foxwood casino from Orient Point (if you like gambling).
As far as Manhattan goes there is so much to do...South Street Seaport,Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center/Fifth Ave shopping/Broadway shows..Central Park...
the list is endless. Have fun!
