Taking Prescription Drugs into Argentina/Chile
My tour book for Argentina said that prescription drugs should be carried in their original containers and they suggested you have a note from your doctor detailing the prescriptions. I am certainly not going to bother the doctor for a note but was wondering if any of you have had any experiences relative to this. When we have gone to Europe and Asia I have always simply put my pills and over-the counter meds into a zip loc bag to save space. Is it really necessary to bring individual containers?
We are leaving in 9 days so I really appreciate your information.

We didn't have any problems bringing our precriptions into either country. Our bags were all throughly searched entering Chile from Argentina and, again, no problems. In fact, in Chile, we purchased more of our expensive (US) prescriptions over the counter for far less money. Look for Cruz Verde in Chile, similar to a Walgreens or CVS.

We leave my husband's prescription medication in the containers they come in. We have a zipper bag that we call our "medicine cabinet" and all our meds OTC or prescription are carried there. He packs it in his carry-on bag. Yes, it takes more space, but so far has caused no headaches (no pun intended). Incidentally, I've been told it is not good practice to combine prescription medications in a common bag. Can't verify that info, but thought I'd pass it along. We've never had notes from his doctors and no one ever requested them.

Thanks too all of you for the input. I am not taking any narcotic, sleeping, or mental health related meds so will go ahead and just use the zip loc bags. I hadn't heard about not mixing them in a common bag. I will have to ask the pharmacist about that. It is only for 3 weeks so hopefully it will be okay to combine just to avoid bringing multiple bottles.

I decided to be cautious and took all my meds in the prescription bottles. I take pain killers and wanted to make sure I didn't have any problems, ...and I didn't .
I also put all my vitamins and omega 3 pills in their original bottles just to be sure. Then threw them out as I emptied them at the end of the trip. It gave me a bit more room for shopping.

, he's never had any problems bring his prescriptions along with him, we usually have a set in our carry on and another in our checked luggage.
