Iguazu Early January..Panoramic, St. George, or Rio Tropic?

We (the six of us) lost our rez at Secret Garden due to not having a confirmed flight into IGR and John from SG was kind enough to help me with some other choices. So far I have three very different places. Which place would you choose for two nights in early January based on convenience to the falls and airport by bus or taxi, and overall pleasantness of the hotel? A pool is a must and all three have one. St George quoted us $206 a nt. including tax, breakfast and an airport pick-up, the Rio Tropic is around $70 a nt including tax and breakfast, the Panoramic is $170 for an upgraded room. including tax and breakfast. What do you think? Thanks!

Thanks, but the Sheraton is really over our budget. Asiarooms was $400 a night for our dates. Expedia, etc. range in the mid $300's. The Panoramic is my current choice, but I was concerned that it was too far away from everything. The Rip Tropic is TA #1 and really inexpensive.

We stayed at The Panoramic Hotel in Puerto Iguazu for two nights last June. It is a modern, tastefully decorated hotel on a quiet hilltop that overlooks the river and forest. Our room had a flat screen television that offered CNN. The breakfast buffet was tasty and hearty. The pool looked very nice, though while we were there it had been drained and was being serviced (it was winter).
The hotel is abour a 5 to 10 minute walk from the center of Puerto Iguazu.
If by "upgraded room" they mean river view, you should be pleased.
There a van/minibus service at the airport that will drop you off at your hotel for a small fee.
As there are six of you, it mght be just as cheap to just take a taxi to and from the airport or to the falls.
Otherwise, you can catch a bus from the bus station in the center of Puerto Iguazu to the Argentine side of the falls. The bus cost about $2. You can also catch a bus to the Brazilian side of the falls, but you will have to transfer to another bus on the Brazilian side of the border. This second, Brazilian bus will dropp you just steps away from the Brazilian side of the falls. Approximate cost of the trip: $3. As you cross the border, you will be required to show your passport (as your bus driver waits for you).
It is worth visiting both sides of the falls.

Thank you so much! It's sounds lovely and yes we were going to be upgraded to a river view room. I am interested in the Brazilian side, but I have heard so many conflicting stories about the price for an American to cross over the border tro see the falls. Thanks again!

We stayed at the St. George hotel and found it to be very nice. The room was large and comfortable. The pool was good and the location was very close to the bus terminal for the bus to the falls. We enjoyed the buffet dinner and breakfast was good too. We ate lunch at the pool one afternoon. The free airport pick up also stopped at the Sheraton for 20 min. or so then drop off people at other hotels. It was good to see the Sheraton we couldn't afford. But it took awhile and would have been quicker to take a taxi from the airport. As we were only there for one night we wanted to drop our bags at the hotel and get to the falls. We really enjoyed our visit to the falls with the many paths and views.
