Any hot chocolate in NYC similar to Angelina's in Paris?

We are going to New York this weekend, and my daughter who is something of a hot chocolate aficionado wants to go and have the best hot chocolate in the city. The highlight of our trip to Paris (for her)was the wonderful hot chocolate at Angelina's. Any ideas for New York? By the way, we are staying on the Upper West Side so any place there would be most convenient. Thanks.

The hot chocolate at Avenue Bistro (Columbus/85th) is darned close. Don't know if it's the best in NYC.

Avenue Bistro is delightful anytime, though.

Lots of people recommend Jacques Torres' hot chocolate (check out the website www.jacquestorres.com) for info - it's in Brooklyn. Others adore City Bakery - february is always hot chocolate month there - with a different flavor special every day. City bakery is on 18th between 5th & 6th. Others will swear by serendipty's frozen hot chocolate dessert - do a search here. And I have heard that Avenue, the restaurant djbooks suggests does have great hot choocolate - just haven't tried it yet . . . . you could also post on chowhound - and do a search there . . .

I love Serendipity's Frozen Hot Chocolate too. It's one of the best chocolate milk shakes I've ever had, but that's what it is. Why in the world it's called Frozen HOT Chocolate I'll never know.

If she loves Hot Chocolate a specialty here in the city is Bubble Tea in Chinatown. Try Silk Road on Mott St, and ask for Irish Creme or "Milk Tea" with bubbles. The bubbles are tapioca "pearls".

There are several "cafes" on Mott St that serve Bubble Tea, but Silk Road is the best. The Hot Chocolate there is really good as well.

Take the subway down to Canal St and walk east to Mott St and turn right. Lots of good places to eat too. Oh and there's some great shopping on Canal St as well.

Have a GREAT TIME!!

If you are in DC and want to try some good hot chocolate, The Washington Post chose my neighborhood cafe/coffee shop for the honor of the area's best hot chocolate.

It's Le Grand Cafe in McLean, VA. The coffee and sandwiches are great too. And now they have a wine license.

Is there still a Rumplemeyer's in the St. Moritz? Angelina's began as a Rumplemeyers, so they may indeed use the same chocolate source.

Thank you all for your replies. I think we will try either Avenue Bistro or SQC since they are close to where we are staying. Serendipity sounds fun, but the frozen hot chocolate doesn't quite fit the bill. MarieBelle sounds great too. Thank you for all the ideas.

One more to add: Maison du Chocolat (49th just east of 6th Ave) has an amazing, if expensive ($7), hot chocolate. Sit down in the back of the shop to enjoy it. And pick up some truffles while you're there.

My16yr daughter and I went ga ga over the hot chocolate...and I'm not much of a hot chocolate guy--prefer a tall cap---but I must agree that what this architect remembers most of Paris is spooning Angelina's Hot Chocolate...it's more of tomato soup texture not chocolate sweet , a more creamier chocolate...have been to nyc and philly and have NOT found anything close in taste...did bring back a bag of the stuff but did not taste anything like Paris....if I ever come across a place in US will seek suki...byeby

You might enjoy the Chocolate Show on this weekend (11/10 - 11/13) at the Metropolitan Pavillion on 18th between 6th and 7th Ave. - $25 admission for adults but a pure indulgence - many high end chocolatiers giving tastes of the wonderful (and some weird) wares. Incredible hot chocalate from Neuhaus - it rivals the chaud chocolat I've had in Paris. Gets very crowded go early . . .

LOVE the hot chocolate at La Maison du Chocolat - there's another location on Madison in the 70's (78th or 79th?). Very rich, thick and creamy! Great pastries and truffles too. Closed on Sundays though.

city bakery on 18th street
recognized nationally for its hot chocolate.... He (maury rubin original owner pastry chef) melts chocolate bars to create this drink. Get a demi (size of a shot glass) or its too much, imagine melted chocolate bars its very thick and rich. He also has homemade marshmellows to add.

No fair, I am pregnant and here you go saying the A=word. Angelinas. I need that hot chocolate more than anything right now. Anyone know someplace in VA to get similar stuff? What about Honolulu? I've been trying to avoid all thoughts of French Food. If you like the richness of Angelina's hot chocolate, and you like cheese, try Comte Cheese. You pretty much have to get it airmailed from France, but it is so worth it!
