Security Line Procedure Question

I appreciate this board and the people taking the time to answer my very INfrequent flyer questions!

I will be flying American Airlines from Tulsa to Dallas then Turkish Air on to Athens.

I want to confirm that the only flight I have to be concerned about the unusually long TSA security's line in is the Tulsa flight? Once I’m through security in Tulsa I’m good?

Thank you in advance.

TSA Security Line Procedure

Thank you in advance for answering my INfrequent flyer question.

I'm traveling Tulsa to Dallas then on to Turkey. Do I understand that I will go through security check in Tulsa only? Once I’m through security there I’m good?

Im concerned hearing about the extremely long lines.

Thanks!

Assuming you have your boarding pass for the Turkish Airlines flight you can stay airside at DFW and not worry about going through security again. If you have to change Terminals at DFW take the SkyTrain as it’s picks you up and drops you off inside the secure area.

Are both flights on one booking? If so, you will get both boarding passes when you check in at Tulsa where they will check your passport, etc.

If your flights are on one ticket you’ll get boarding passes for both flights when you check-in at Tulsa. If your flights are on separate tickets you can check-in and get your boarding pass for the Turkish Airlines flight before you leave online using the Turkish Airlines website.

One other point - will you have any checked luggage? If yes and both flights are in one ticket your luggage will be checked through to Athens and you’ll proceed as above.

If your flights are on separate tickets you’ll have ask your Tulsa/DFW airline if they can check your luggage through to Athens. If not, then you’ll have to claim and re-check your luggage at DFW which means you’ll need to exit the secure area and go through TSA checkpoint at DFW.

That (luggage) is the issue, not the boarding pass.

You can/should check in online and get your Mobile Boarding Pass | Turkish Airlines ®
(as RoamsAround mentioned). Use that or print it at home.

Worst case is if you don't have your TK boarding pass when you leave Tulsa, then you can just go from your Tulsa flight to the gate for your Turkish flight and get it from the gate agent. Am fairly sure this would be airside transit. Use the Skylink train.

google tells me:
Turkish Airlines (Star Alliance) and American Airlines (oneworld) maintain an interline agreement allowing for through-checked baggage and connecting flights on a single ticket, particularly for US-Turkey travel via hubs like NYC, Miami, and Chicago.

But it also tells me it might not work if separate tix (PNRs). If that is the case then read this: Baggage-Through_Checked_Baggage_Policy-Separate_Tickets.pdf

Note my edit. AA does not through check on separate PNR's - not even if both flights are on AA metal.

But the OP hasn't said if it is all on one booking or not. Assuming is it one PNR, as you say, through checking is not an issue.

The policy pdf I linked is informative.

I was equating ticket with PNR. It is possible to have two tickets on one PNR.

What if I have separate tickets in the same PNR for itineraries with American to a non oneworld carrier?
Our policy on American to non-oneworld airline tickets has not changed. We will not through-check customers or bags even if the tickets are in the same PNR. The customer will need to collect their baggage at the final destination on the American 001 ticket. The customer is responsible for the baggage fees associated on the second ticket when the baggage is re-checked with the non-oneworld airline. This may involve exiting the secure area to claim and re-check the baggage. International flights may require clearing customs and rechecking on the other airline to the final destination.

Am suspecting that OP has an American 001 ticket for the Tulsa flight and a Turkish 235 ticket number(s) for the rest. To check through at Dallas the ticket would need to be for TUL-DFW-IST all on a 001 ticket number. I think.

Thanks

My flight with the short transfer time was cancelled by the airlines and the new flight is several hours later so not a worry now even with my two separate tickets. Thank you for the assistance!

I think you mean that American cancelled your Tulsa flight and now you are arriving in Dallas several hours earlier. If you check your bags then (am pretty sure) you will need to go to baggage claim.

Are you getting a mobile boarding pass for your Turkish flight(s)?

At that point, from baggage claim in Dallas you would check your bags with Turkish and get your boarding pass from them if you need it. Then you go through TSA.

If you don't check bags then you don't go through TSA. You just go from your arrival gate to the Turkish gate. You will have your mobile boarding pass or can get one from the gate agent.
