What hotel price range do you usually consider reasonable when traveling?

When I travel in Asia, I have a rough price range in mind for accommodation — around $100–120 per night in major cities, and around $50–70 in smaller cities.
I usually look for places that are reasonably modern and around 30㎡ or larger.
Now I’m thinking about traveling to Europe or the US. For a similar level of comfort and room size, what price range can I realistically expect in major cities?
Also, where do people usually look to find good value places? In China I usually compare prices across a few platforms to find the best option, so I’m wondering what people normally use when traveling in Europe or North America.

I wonder: This thread is the 3rd you've started about rather un-answerable cost questions. Are you conducting research for a report of some sort? It would be nice if you would say so.

But to answer your question about hotels: Booking.com has excellent information about lodging and you can get an idea of average prices for any specific location by checking your dates (prices will change seasonally).

Sorry, but this is just getting silly. None of your threads sound legit to me.

I’m actually just planning a trip to Europe or the US. It would be my first time traveling outside Asia, and I’m not very familiar with the booking platforms or typical prices in Europe or North America yet. So I’m still trying to understand how things usually work there.

Thanks for the tip about Booking. I’ve been checking prices there recently to get a better idea.

What "plan"? Where are you going? Are you planning a trip?

Yes, I’m planning a trip. I actually decided two days ago to go to Europe first.
In another thread yesterday, I asked which cities would make the most sense for a 7-day trip. Based on the suggestions there, I’m currently looking at options like London/Paris or cities such as Rome, Vienna, and Prague, probably in one or two cities.
Right now I’m still working through the budget. I’ve been checking flight and hotel prices, it looks like my original budget might be a bit tight.

Sorry didn't see you other thread. For 7 days in Europe personally I'd go only to one city. But if you want to split with two - Venice/Florence works, Venice/Rome, even Venice/Paris. I've also enjoyed Amsterdam and Geneva but on separate trips.

Trolling for a blog. So far, only kja and janisj have picked up on that.

Of course I "picked up on that" too. Doesn't mean there is any harm in answering. Unless Fodor's mods choose to step in and delete the topics.

These threads on 'Travel Tips' are pretty much non-productive/verging on unanswerable. But the OP has what seems to be a legitimate thread over on the Europe Forum. Planning a 7-day Europe trip – one city or multiple cities?

So maybe we should try to help him/her on that thread and leave the three threads on this board to fade away.

(He does need help because his budget seems woefully inadequate)

#10 - If you read the thread on the Europe forum that janisj linked, doesn't sound like "trolling for a blog" to me.

hi janisj ~ yup these will fade away after a while but being on the Travel Tips forum might take a while Still I say this kind of thread is a good reminder that it never hurts to be kind and give someone the benefit of the doubt. suze

Thank you, I really appreciate that.
I’m new to forums like this, so I didn’t realize at first that some of my earlier questions might sound too broad. My travel plan was still quite vague at that point, and I was just trying to get a general sense of things.
After reading more threads and suggestions here, I’ve started to get a clearer idea of possible cities and the overall budget. Thanks again for being patient and helpful.

$150 for an average but clean Hampton Inn type room in rural or small town America.
$300 to $400 starting point for a nice room in NYC or European cities
$800+ for really nice splurge rooms in Venice and other locations
If your trip is in summer, be sure to check reviews for A/C conditions. No or poor A/C can ruin a summer vacation during hot temps.
