Road trip Kagoshima to Takachiho
Hi Fodorites
as part of our Kyushu itinerary we’re planning a road trip from Kyushu to somewhere not far but to the east of Takachiho and I wondered if anyone had some lovely spots they’d recommend to stop at and where they’d stay overnight? We’ll be there early April and I already have my eye on the Saitaburo Burial Mounds and Minato Shrine. We’re happy to travel slow and take the full day and go off on tangents. Some walks are good, good views, places to eat (little huts/small indie places rather than fancy restaurants), castles etc
Thinking we’ll book the first boat possible at Takachiho with any luck the next morning so I was also wondering if anyone had driven up to Fujigawachi Gorge? The drive looks hairy but my husband is a confident driver, we won’t be canyoning I think in April but it looks a beautiful place to see.
for reference we’ll be heading to Aso from Takachiho and staying overnight in the area so we’ll want a decent chunk of that day to explore the area
thanks so much
