Is Upgrade to comfort plus worth it?

We flew Premium Economy on United to Paris day after Christmas. Separate cabin with seats set up 2-2-2 across with only 5 rows so that's 30 people with bathroom in front of us for our use, not business class, and no long walk to back of plane. More foot space. Reclined a bit further, definitely not to full recline. New travel pillows and blankets from Saks Fifth Avenue at each seat. Worth every mile we used for it. Believe food choice was same as offered in business too.

Comfort + on Delta is not the Premium others on this thread others are describing as they are talking about different airlines. Comfort + on Delta gets you some extra legroom (2-4 inches depending on model of airplane), but the seats are not wider than main cabin/economy. That's basically all you get (wine/beer on domestic flights and extra snacks on flights over 900 miles). The food is the same as economy although Delta talks about slightly upgrading. Delta does have a cabin class called Premium Select and that gives you a wider seat, more recline, an adjustable footrest, more meal selection. Premium Select is not available on all Delta planes.

Ah, sounds like Delta Comfort+ is the same as United's Economy Plus, which is not the same as United's Premium Plus.
All these classes can get confusing. Basic, Economy, Economy Plus, Premium Plus, Business...
And I just now noticed that I said "Economy Plus" in my post above when I meant "Premium Plus".
Sorry for the confusion.

Yes and Delta is getting ready to further muddy the waters in Oct. It's going to be a hot mess.

They quietly raised fares for solo travelers recently, got caught and backed down.

I flew on Delta from Detroit to Asia on an A350, and paid ~$250 one way to upgrade to the wider seat, more recline, quiter / separate cabin area, and better food/beverage. I don't recall what it was called.... The asking price for the upgrade started around $700 one way, so I played a game of chicken... watching the price drop as travel date got closer, and also keeping any eye on how many open seats there were.....
What seemed to work to my benefit was that I suspect there were passengers who paid for that cabin, and were playing the same upgrade game to biz class. When the price hit a point I liked, I grabbed it. not wanting to get shut out over small $$...

I know this is a month-old question but a few weeks ago, I flew United overseas. I did not upgrade to economy plus on the way over as to me an overnight flight isn't worth the extra room and it was a full flight anyway. However, coming back when checking in, I looked at the upgrade. It was $129 or 13,000 miles and as I didn't have my credit card saved in my account, I used my miles. I was curious how much it would cost to recoup the mileage and to do so as they knew I just flew them, it was almost $400 (maybe sometimes they run better buying deals, I never really noticed). I can confirm they do as J62 says. I would not have upgraded if I wasn't able to get an aisle seat like I already had in economy so something to consider in the future.

We feel United Premium Economy worth every penny on 6 hr + flights: you occupy a small cabin of only 30 or so passengers seated 2-2-2 with a designated restroom in between you and the business class flat-lying passengers. More leg room and sooo much quieter. Quality pillow and blanket too. We are old, and comfort matters alot.

United has a bonus offer where you can buy 13,500 miles for $350. That is a 35% bonus. Without the offer 13,000 miles would cost $450.
With that bonus you would pay about 2.6 cents for a mile. From United's perspective they are selling their currency at 2.6 times what they will buy it for. Unlike real money, you can buy only what they are selling at the price they set with no competition.
You did the right thing, thank goodness, by spending the miles instead of the money.
Just noticed this at united dot com:
Miles cost $35.00 USD* per 1,000 miles
*Plus, taxes and fees. Minimum purchase of 2,000 miles.

United miles are usually worth about 1.3 cents according to the credit card mavens who do the maths. Cost more to buy them, generally about 2 cents a mile when you get a 100% bonus. I usually use miles to upgrade. Last year SFO-KIX was about 16K dollars but I managed to upgrade 4 seats for 30K miles plus $550 + tax each for a one way upgrade. I find it usually costs about 10K miles to upgrade to premium economy and this makes it easier to upgrade to business. Sometimes we will pay 80K one way for business.
This summer I managed to get SFO-ZUR for $3400 business RT. I get economy plus at booking and sometimes we will fly with those seats if there is an open seat next to us and the flight is not that full but if the flight is packed we will upgrade. Cash always wins over miles. In April our miles did not clear SFO-LHR do we ended up paying $1400 to upgrade to business. Much easier to sleep and arrive fresh on lie flats.

We last went to Japan November 2023.
Probably go back to Japan this October or November.
Considered Hokkaido end of July but my friends have told me that Hokkaido has gotten quite hot in the summer and sometimes gets hit by typhoons. Also flight costs for Asia this summer are quite high. European flights quite reasonable and interesting SMF flights to Europe much cheaper then SFO in most cases this summer
