You have enquired on Portofino, Singapore, Mallorca, the South of France, and beaches in general, with a one and four year old. Perhaps you should get a guidebook (or four) and come up with a plan that is less spread out and vague. Where are you coming from? How long is your vacation? Budget? You do know that Singapore is half a world away from Europe?

Aha! The Australian start explains Singapore, which is now logical, while the 8 weeks explains how the multiple locations are will work. Depending on where you will want to be in Europe, a car may be equally a burden as well as a benefit compared with trains and local buses.

AJPeabody, is that the Nacimiento-Fergussen Rd going from the Mill Creek Bridge on Hwy 1 on to the Hunter- Liggett Military base & Mission San Antonio de Padua? Many years ago, We were visiting my sister who worked at Ventana Inn . There had been a slide that closed off part of the highway, so for weeks she'd been suggesting that route to people who wanted to cut across to/from I-5 inland. She had no idea!
If you pull up a map of the F-Nacimiento Road you'll see that it is one squiggle turn after another. What the map doesn't show is that it's a steep, one lane road with no guardrails and steep cliffs on the South edge of the road. We did not speak for the whole time it took to cross the mountain; it was that scary! Luckily we didn't meet anyone coming toward us. I can't imagine reversing up there. Luckily it was re-paved shortly before we drove it, so at least the road was smooth.
