Good to know, someotherguy!

I have had my unregistered SUICA for many years. I even lost it once and had it returned to me.... since I was pretty sure where I lost it and contacted the venue and someone must have turned it in.....

It’s easier just to add Suica to Apple Pay on your iPhone. Easy to top off too with a credit card in your wallet. Have not used my physical Suica for some time. Probably can do it on Android too

With Android you need the Japanese version of the operating system.

Well, I don't have an Iphone - am an android person and I don't use any of those phone pay apps here at home in the US and wouldn't use them in Japan...just don't believe in them....obviously my issue....;-)

There is better security using your credit card via Apple pay or Google pay which is why I have switched my habits. Can confirm via a Google software engineer that in Japan you do indeed need a Japanese version of the Android system in order to use Suica in Google pay.

What cities can the card be used in? Going first time in April and trying to sort out transportation.

I seem to recall someone posting that you could only load the Suica with a mastercard, not a Visa card. Is that true?

Great that Suica is coming back. I used it regularly in extended vacations in 2017/2018/2019 while in Japan. I still have the old card here somewhere.
Happy Travels!

Another stupid question: Coming from Haneda, I see we'll need to use the monorail, then train to Tokyo station. Does the Suica work on both, and also on the subway? And buses? This is so confusing for me!

The Suica card works for of above. Limo bus might be the easiest way to get to your hotel.

Thanks for the quick responses!

We're going to use the Airport Limousine recommended by mrwunrfl in another post on returning to Haneda from our second hotel on return to Tokyo. Can I use the Suica for that as well, or does it need a special ticket?

I have both Visa and MC, and MC works while Visa stopped working.

And in the reverse direction, that limo bus from the Tekko Building to Narita was great! I used it in summer 2019 at the end of my 3-week trip. I booked a room in the very nearby Metropolitan Hotel, a new experience as I'm used to being at the Four Seasons-Marunouchi, next to Tokyo Station. But, I had stayed there at the beginning of my trip.
The Metropolitan Hotel was less than a 5-minute walk from the Tekko building. I even got a staff member from the hotel to help me roll my luggage over to the building. I walked there and then bought a ticket from the machine. And the building had a nice inside waiting area which was well air conditioned. It was a lot easier than taking the airport train to Narita which I've always done in the past. If I get back in the future, I will definitely use the Tekko Building's limo bus again no matter if I'm back at the FS, The Metropolitan, or both. Plus, there's also a hotel right next to the Tekko Building.

Happy Travels!
