I am p,anning on spending 10 days, 5 in Kyoto, 3 in Kanazawa and 2 in Takayama. Then, I am thinking of a 4-5 day Shikoku road trip. Any help or thoughts would be great appreciated.

Have you considered the amount of time it will take to go from place to place? I don't think you can actually have 5 days in Kyoto, 3 in Kanazawa, and 2 in Takayama in 10 days -- but maybe that's not what you meant? In any case, it's usually best to lay itineraries out by nights, which more easily lets you see how much time you will actually have in any city.

My other suggestion: spend plenty of time with japan-guide.com, an excellent source of information on all things about travel in Japan.

You are correct…I meant nights in each place. I am trying to sort out my last 4-5 nights and thought of a Shikoku road trip. But this is just an idea. I am looking for help with this idea.
