Cabo or boca de tomatlan, JAL
Help! We are planning a trip in late May/early June with two families (12 adults plus two babies), and we are debating between Cabo or boca de tomatlan, JAL, which isn't far from Puerto Vallarta. The question is, which one would be better for us and is it safe enough to rent an Airbnb? Adults are between 18-60 and we love being active (not surfing active, but not afraid to hike active), love beaches, relaxing, exploring, up for ATV and more. But we are unfamiliar with both areas and where it would be safe to stay and still have things to do. Any thoughts or suggestions are very much welcome! Thanks!

I love Puerto Vallarta and go there once or twice a year. I've also been to Cabo San Lucas. Boca is a teeny little beach town. Not sure why you are specifically looking there? I'm not sure what you would "do" there? Most activities would involve coming into PV. Could not be more different from Cabo (which is a city, cruise port, tourist hub, like PV is).

Simply not true. Puerto Vallarta is not "brutally hot" in May or early June. Hotter weather doesn't come until later in June. Aug/Sept are the hottest months. I've been in PV in May dozens of times and it was lovely. Considered shoulder season so rents can be a bit more reasonable some places.
I have rented many many times but I travel solo and stay in condos in Zona Romantia (aka Old Town) right in the city. I've no experience with houses.
I just can't picture what you'd do down in Boca for an entire trip? Yes it is far from the main area (if you mean the city of Puerto Vallarta) where there are literally limitless things to see and do.
If you want to rent a villa but be nearer to town you could look at Conchas Chinas (south of town but close enough to easily move around).
Since you are not familiar with PV, I would rent thru a respected local agency, not do an AirBnB. www.pvrpv.com is excellent and has a large inventory of places and terrific customer service.

Oh, I though the OP asked about LATE May/Jume.
You can check out historical averages and decide if the weather is something you'd enjoy or not. Remember, it's also humid. Last year from late May to June was already "oppressive to miserable" for much of the day. If you go then, don't expect to do much more than lay around the pool or beach most of the day. If you aren't going to be "doing" mucho I'd rather be in a more attractive location such as Boca de Tomatlan. It's only 20 minutes south of Puerto Vallarta proper and a good launching point for pangas to other beaches.

The weather is still fine even later in June, just starting to get into the humid/summer/rainy season. Most people would not consider Boca a "more attractive location" that's for sure. I never even hear it mentioned except for catching the water taxi down to Yelapa or having a beach day there.
Sure you can check historical averages, or you can talk/listen with people who actually spend lots of time in Puerto Vallarta
I never "lay around" the pool or the beach for most of the day. Regardless of the weather or month I'm on vacation in Vallarta.
I am not against Cabo, but I find Vallarta infinitely more interesting.
