Costa Rica in March: Family of 5, Where to, and Hotel vs Airbnb?

Looked at many threads (thanks to all who post, help). Family of 5 (kids 12, 16, 18), first trip to CR. Plan west coast, rent a car/SUV. Would like to be on/near beach, but also looking to see wildlife, ziplines, ATV tours, hikes and/or boat tours. Budget ~ $500-1000/night for stay. Probably stay 4-5 nights in 2 different places, do day trips.

-General area: Osa peninsula- Golfito, Manuel Antonio, or Papagayo area, or other?
-Thoughts on hotel vs Airbnb. Would need 2 hotel rooms, but generally like to be where there are others (though not crowded) vs isolated.
-Have seen some posts on CR commenting on burglaries at their Airbnb. Tilt towards hotel, or depends on area??
-Son is ok w Spanish, though certainly not fluent.
-I've driven lots of places- Italy, hedgerows of England- reasonable to drive around?

Any suggestions about cool experiences? Butterfly farms? (went to one in Belize that was near Blancaneaux Lodge, very un-touristy, fantastic)- would love kids to see.

Take a look at Tulemar Bungalows in Manuel Antonio. They have their own beach and lots of wildlife like monkeys and sloths right on site. Good open air restaurants in walking distance. You just have to be careful along the road.

Thanks VolcanoGirl. Most of the villas are booked- only 1 condo outside Tulemar available. Hmmm, maybe a tad late to book for March??

There are some Airbnb's available. And some hotels. Will think some more.
