Hello, my question might be redundant after reading so much about it in this forum, but here we go...

After spending a few days in Paris, we will take the train to Bordeaux, Monday August 24, pick our leased car and drive towards Sarlat. We have stayed in Sarlat before and we are considering other areas as our home base, we would love suggestions as well as hotels or bed and breakfasts (airbnb?) with parking for five nights please.

The question is driving from the Dordogne to Saint Remy de Provence, we would like an overnight in between. We have visited and stayed in Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, Albi, Cordes sur Ciel and Carcassone. We liked all of these places but would like to stay in a different town that is charming enough to spend an afternoon and evening or even stay for two nights. We would consider staying in Albi again, we love art so going to the Toulouse Lautrec museum was a treat and is a very charming town.

Try Pezenas. Lovely village. Get a walking itinerary from the tourist office. Visit nearby Grotte de Clamouse & St Guilhem le Desert.

Lots of other nice places to stay in the Dordogne: St-Cyprien, Montignac, Rouffignac, Monpazier, Marquay, St-Génies, Plazac, Paunat, plus all the well-known ones near Sarlat like Beynac and Vitrac and Domme and La Roque-Gageac.

Pézenas is a good choice - lots to see around there - or keep going to the coast near Montpellier and stay in Bouzigues or thereabouts.

What about le Puy-en-Velais for a stop, perhaps two nights, or le Pré Bossu in Moudeyres for an overnight? The latter is a splurge and the village being so small, the best alternative is to take the evening meal in le Pré Bossu. Reservations essential.

If you want to Google it or use Viamichelin to determine how to get there - I think it is "le Puy-en-Velay".

It's about 5 years ago now, but we very, very much enjoyed driving thru the Cevenne (I think it was). We picked up on one of Stu Dudley's itineraries, going east to west. We overnighted in FLorac at a nice rural hotel with excellent food. The drive was along a river valley or five (the names escape me), but it was at TOTALLY different and unique part of France, but it didn't seem to take long to go from one end to the other. We started at Ales and finished (I think) near Gaillac d'Aveyron; from there to Sarlat was perhaps 90 minutes. Worth checking out on Stu's itin.

Um...no. At least 3 hours, more if you take a rest stop. It's 185 kms.

just fyi, we drove from scarlet to gout and it was about 6 hours. 4 of them were very pleasant. the last 2 on the highway were more pressured bc of tolls and those speeding cameras but it was not bad at all.
