Hershey PA/Amish Recommendations

Heading to Hershey/Gettysburg in summer. Is it posible to tour Hershey/Gettysburg/Amish from one location or is it better to get accomodations in each specific spot?

So far have reserved Hershey Lodge for first few days then down to Gettysburg Hotel/Best Western for time in G'burg but can easiy change. Nothing booked in Amish.

All advice/insight welcome!! Thanks!

I live in this area. I think that you could easily combine Hershey and the Amish country, as they are only about 1/2 hour apart. Hershey is quite nice, and the Amish country has become a bit overdone. I would stay in Hershey and make a daytrip to the Lancaster area. There is a nice museum on the Amish in Intercourse. Rt. 30 is pretty much nothing but hotels, restaurants an outlets, but you do not have to go far from it on either side to see the people and farms. If you are traveling with kids, I would think you could visit Lancaster in the day, and go to Hershey Park in the evening. Gettysburg is further from Hershey, and not so junky--I would also stay there.

Diane-
Thanks for the advice!

Any feedback re: accomodations? Are you familiar with Hershey Lodge or Gettysburg Hotel/Best Western (Lincoln Square). ?

I read some about the Hershey Hotel but thought with 2 kids the Hershey Lodge might be more appropriate- your thoughts?

Sandy, put Miller's Smorgasbord in Ronks on your list of places to eat...it is an unbelievable feast for the eyes and the stomach.

Sandy--I do not know too much aboout the Hershey Lodge. I have travelled past it many times, as it is on the edge of Hershey. It is a nice looking , modern(as compared to the Hotel Hershey), hotel. I have been to the Hershey Hotel a number of times, and it is definitely more elegant. I think with kids you probably made the correct choice. I can't guide you at all about Gettysburg, sorry.
