Safe Travel
We're travelling from England in the summer with Florida as a base. We hope to drive around some of the southern states. First can you recommend a short 2 week tour and secondly are we likely to get any problems as a mixed(colour) couple?

Dear Andrew
I think you will need to indicate your interests in order for others to help you with tour possibilities. I would suggest you get a map of the US and from there narrow the States of interest ie obviously Flordia as your base then onto Georgia, South Carolina (basically staying along the Atlantic Ocean. Or moving in the other direction to Alabama, Mississippi. Consider how many miles a day you are wanting to travel and what is your main topic of interest (beaches, sight seeing, fishing) You could spend two weeks in Florida without any problem. Get a good tour book on Florida and see what they have to offer. Are you going to try and take in Disney World or Universal Studios? Doing the theme parks is fun and it will eat up a good portion of your vacation time if that is in the plans. Give more info will try to help.
As far as the color of anyones skin. If you love each other who cares what other people think. It is very common to see mixed couples in the South.
Peace, Robbie

Hi Andrew,
If you're flying into Florida, and out of Washington, you'll have plenty of time. I suggest stops at Charleston, SC; Kitty Hawk, NC, Baltimore's Inner Harbor; maybe check schedules and see a baseball game. Once you get to Washington, you can see as much or as little as your time allows. Have fun!

I don't know which is a bigger hint of a troll about traveling in the South -- choosing it in the summer, or choosing it and then saying you're a mixed-race couple.
If this is for real, all I can say is stay in the cities and be prepared for hot days and cold shoulders.

I hope you have a wonderful time. I doubt you have any trouble as a mixed race couple, but there is a small chance of a few odd moments. The road trip to Washington is entirely possible within your time limit.
There are so many things to see along the way that you must be careful on planning. It would be very easy to spend the 2 weeks and never leave Florida. If you do want to make a few unusual stops, take the earlier adivce and see Charleston or Savanah, as well as Baltimore. I would suggest a drive a little out of the way and go US I-75 toward the mountains of Tennessee(north of Atalanta). Any of this area is fine, but I really like the Knoxville and Gatlinburg, Tennessee, area. Usually cooler weather( some of the times) and beautiful mountains. One big drawback here is the popularity of this area. Many, many, fellow tourist in and around Gatlinburg from end of May till September. If you are willing to put up with the mobs then I think this is worth an extra 2 days of your time.
Be prepared for hot muggy weather most of this time of year. Only if you are from the tropics will it be enjoyable. There are many other such areas of beauty and cooler mountain breezes in the Carolina's and Virginia, but I think Gatlinburg and the Great Smokey Mountain Park will give you a different view of rural American than Florida or Georgia.
If I can be of any further just post here.

I don't get it, Ellen. What do you guys do just sit around and do this "TROLL" stuff every time you see a new thread??? Why don't you go after the idiots the start the "best looking breasts" threads or the what color do I wear threads. Give it a break. Why would you doubt that this is a real question? Gosh, is your life that negative?
