Kennebunkport, Bar Harbor, Maine
We are flying into Manchester, NH in late July and we are considering spending an evening in Kennebunkport, Maine. Is it nice? The following day we are driving to Bar Harbor, Maine. How is the Holiday Inn in Bar Harbor? Is 4 days in Bar Harbor too many? Traveling with a 4 year old and an 8 year old. We have never been to Maine and would appreciate any advice.
Thanks

We flew into Manchester, NH, and went up to Maine in the summer. Sometimes the traffic to and fro Bar Harbor can be very heavy on weekends, especially Friday and Sunday -- allow more time than you'd expect if you are traveling during those times. I loved Kennebunkport - very quaint looking. But there were many beautiful towns up along the coast which we didn't have much time for. We loved Boothbay Harbor.

Kennebunkport is very nice, though extremely touristy. Allow a lot of time to get through town. Bar Harbour is my personal favorite. If I was to go in July, I'd stay in one of the nearby smaller, charming and less crowded communities, with good access to Acadia and Bar Harbor. I don't think 4 days are too much as long as you integrate "kid" things into your schedule, {boat rides and bike riding are two our son enjoyed}, give the kids cameras, and plan hikes of appropriate length and difficulty. Have fun!

Bar Harbor is a long way from Kennebunkport. Both are lovely. Kennebunkport is the summer home of George and Barbara Bush. On your way, stop off at Boothbay Harbor for a day, and one day in Camden, and possibly Rockport, especially if your kids loved the movie "Andre the Seal".
