Los Angeles, Beachfront resort

Looking for a beachfront resort in Los Angeles for family with teenagers.

All quite expensive! Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica. Ritz Carlton Marina Del Rey. Sand and Surf Laguna Beach. Vacation Village Laguna Beach. There's a Embassy SUites in Manhattan Beach which is not too far from the beach and a Holiday Inn in Venice Beach--just a few blocks from the beach. Venice Beach House is on the beach in Venice, but it's more of a B&B than hotel and I'm not sure if teens would be happy there.

Also, check out the Hotel California in Santa Monica. They have suites and are close to all the action in Santa Monica, but cheaper (and not as luxurious) than Shutters.

Also the Beach House in Hermosa Beach looks wonderful. They also have suites, are right on the beach and there are loads of activities for teens, beach volleyball, rent rollerblades or bikes, shopping, etc.

Hi Corinne:

Please note that all of these suggestions are not in Los Angeles. More appropriatly(sp), they are in Southern California in the Los Angeles area. It's like saying Disneyland is in Los Angeles.

Just a word of warning.

Native Californian, I think you are splitting hairs here. Is there an area of the city of Los Angeles that includes beach? The borders of where Los Angeles City begins and ends are all over the map. I think we all know that when Corinne (or anyone else except perhaps the mayor of Los Angeles) says "Los Angeles," she is implying the Los Angeles area. Even the LAPD don't confine themselves to the city limits.

We just stayed at the Best Western Oceanside (or Ocean-something) in Santa Monica. It was $145/night for ocean view plus $10/night for parking in their extremely crowded garage. It's not technically "beachfront" since you have to cross the street and go over a pedestrian bridge to get to the beach, but it's a great location. We could see the pier and the coastline from our room (beautiful) and watch the action on Ocean Avenue. 3rd St. Promenade is also right around the corner.

Rooms are not overly fancy - standard Best Western. It was good enough for us, and the location was fantastic.
