Unknown motel

Hello, We are planning to be in DC in June.
I booked a room at Howard Johnsons on 600 New
York Ave. I have looked for days for someone
who knows about this place. I would like to know if it's in a good neighborhood and not a dump. Thank You Carol

Carol - put more information in your title. "Unknown Motel" doesn't identify Wash DC or HoJos. Most people only open the threads that they have some interest/knowledge about.

x, you are a jerk. Janis was only trying to help by telling Carol that nobody will read her question with its current title. But if Carol took even a second to look at the board she would figure that out on her own.

Carol: I have to agree with Annie. I would want to spend my vacation at that location. My impression of that neighborhood is not a good one. Its not pretty, and I have always thought of it as a higher crime area. Also, New York Avenue is a major commuter route, highly congested every day of the week. I don't know how far back the HoJo sits, but I can't imagine it is quiet. Anyway, I can't help but think you'll enjoy your vacation more if you book elsewhere. I'm sure it was one of the less expensive places to stay, but it would be a big disappointment to me to stay there. You can sometimes find less expensive places by staying in northern VA, near a metro station, than by staying in the District proper. Good Luck.

Just spend the money for a nicer place. If you don't have the money to spend, then don't go on your trip.

You can stay further out..park at a suburban subway station, and take the train in for pete's sake.

Carol, I would not stay in this hotel. I have driven by it, and it really looks like a dump. Plus it is in a very bad area of DC (drugs, carjackings, vandalism, theft etc.). I'd look elsewhere for a room. What is your budget? Perhaps something out in the suburbs but near a metro stop would work?

Carol:

I live in DC and used to drive past that HJ on NY Ave. all the time. It is not a good neighborhood, not safe, nor quiet. I wouldn't recommend anything in North East, DC. Try Arlington/Crystal City/National Airport area. I believe there is a Howard Johnsons, or something similar, near the "Pentagon City" mall. Very convenient to all the sites, the metro, and great shopping, dining, etc. Hope this helps.

Check out www.hotrooms.com, as they specialize in discount hotel rooms for DC and Chicago. I don't know about their DC prices, but they had the best rates i could find when i went to Chicago last year.
