Hi-
We are travelling to the Hall of Fame Induction weekend in July and can't find a place to stay. We spoke to someone in Cooperstown and they said everything within a 60 mile radius is already booked. Does anyone know of a nice place to stay in the surrounding areas? We are from LA so we have no idea.

We stay at a hotel in Oneonta, NY. It's a college town, so there are quite a few hotels and restaurants. And it's close enough or far enough away, depending on which way you look at it. If you have no luck there, I would call hotel chains and see who has locations in the vicinity.

It must be impossible that weekend - we tried on a regular summer weekend and even then it was so difficult that we ended up in Utica. The problem is that there is really nothing in that part of NY except cow pastures. Utica is a city that looks like it was abandoned many years ago, but right off the highway there are many chain hotels - you might try that. (Do not stay at the Radisson downtown - it is a flea-trap!)

If the person who said "everything is booked within a 60 mile radius" is correct, then Oneonta (while a good choice) is within that range. It's about 25 miles from Cooperstown. IF you can get a room there, great.

If not, there is a nice town called Cazenovia which is about 61 miles from Cooperstown. (Just outside that band!) It is actually a nice, quaint town right on a lake. There are several nice B&B's to choose from. The Brae Loch Inn and the Brewster Inn are both very nice.

Cazenovia is about 25 miles from the Syracuse airport.

Cazenovia is a good choice although a bit of a drive from C-town. You might try the Horned Dorset in Leonardsville if $$ is not an issue. It's a very upscale small inn and their restaurant has an excellent reputation throughout the region. It's about 30-35 miles from C-town and Caz is about 60-62 miles. Allow 45-60 minutes from the former and 70-90 from the latter for commute times to C'town.

You can also try Breezy Acres Bed and Breakfast...it is in Hobart--a small little town that is by Stamford, NY. We used to stay there when our country house was being rennovated. The hostess (Joyce)is the most incredible baker and makes the chocolate/white chocolate muffins for breakfast that are to die for. I don't know the number but give information a buzz (607-555-1212). Thanks everyone. We booked the Horned Dorset (thanks Owen for the suggestion). Does anyone have any details on it? I checked out their website but it's hard to tell what it's like.
