Attn: Golfer Guys.....Your Choice on Oahu & Maui Please!

My husband is looking for golf course recommendations on Oahu and Maui. He'd like at least 1 or 2 holes that follow the ocean's edge and/or hit over the water (spectacular views). Also, can I tag along if I don't golf? Your advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

On Maui there are many fabulous courses. The best ones are in the Wailea and Kaanapali areas.

The Wailea golf courses are great! If you are into golfing you would definitely enjoy staying at Grand Champions Villas in a unit on the golf course. Some of the units are available directly from an owner. We loved watching the golfers as we ate breakfast on the lanai.

I am also interested in golfing on both of these islands. Any recommendations will be welcome. Thanks!

Lenore -

I have some great recommendations, but for some reason, you've only asked men to give them.

Best on Maui is Kapaula's Plantation Course followed either by Makena or Kapalua's Bay course. On Oahu, I played Turtle Bay and was disappointed. There is a course by the Kahala Mandarin that is sopposed to be great.

Ditto to the last post. The Plantation Course at Kapalua is fantastic. It is set up a hill from the ocean, so there are no holes where the ocean is actually in play (there are on the Bay course at Kapalua), but the views are spectacular from every hole, and the layout is excellent. Strong wind, winding slopes, and a huge ravine that cuts through the property make it a really fun round of golf. I've played several of Hawaii's highest rated courses (Mauna Kea and the Prince Course) and thought the Plantation course was superior to both. Can't compare to other courses on Maui or Oahu, however.

Lenore,
My husband and I spent 5 days in Kapalua. We loved the Kapalua Bay course (played twice) and you play over water and loved the Plantation Course. This is where the Mercedes Cup Tournament is played each year. Sure you can ride along but Kapalua has a great golf school. Take some lessons and join him.
