Manor On Golden Pond , Holderness NH over Memorial Day
I found a good rate at this inn and wondered if anyone has been there recently. I also think that area is better later in the summer, but is Memorial Day weekend a decent time to visit?

Janie, we stopped by the Manor during our fall visit to NH. It is a lovely place, well-kept, and very private. It struck us as a great place for a couple days of R & R in beautiful surroundings. However, we can't speak to the weather in the area around Memorial Day. Have fun whatever you choose to do!

Clark is wrong. He means black flies. This depends on what you want to do but hiking is probably out. It also depends on how much they bother you. I can usually work in the garden with only a few bites but there are a few days when you just don't want to be outside. The worst days could be earlier in the month or later. All depends on weather and temperature. Usually Memorial Day is when people in NH put in their vegetable gardens but Holderness is a bit north. You could have some lovely drives over thru Center Sandwich and Tamworth and up to N Conway. Take a ride on the SS Mt Washington. Go up the Cannon Mountain Tramway but I probably wouldn't hike in the Flume.

We camped last Memorial Day weekend in Holderness and the mosquitoes were vicious. Plenty of blackflies also. But perhaps they spray for them at the Manor. Nothing a good smoky campfire can't cure.

Ok, so all sorts of biting bugs and probably too cold for me to swim. I think you've cured me of this idea Thanks for the details though. There's always a catch with rates that are much lower tnan usual.
dfrostnh (and others, of course) thanks for your input. I've enjoyed my time in the northern areas of NH and will probably return to some of the places you've mentioned when I'm up in that area. I was hoping for a swimming, boating, light hiking weekend and it sounds like this would not be a good time or place for that.
