Katerbug,
It was the pyramid of Gaius Cestius. About four stops from EUR on the subway (Piramide metro station). About a block from the Ostiense train station which we used to go to Ostia Antica.

Hi Henry...

I really appreciated reading about your trip with your grandson.. I echo others... what a fortunate little boy he is...

From reading your post it is obvious that you are very familiar with Italy.

My husband and I are going to Paris in early Oct... will stop over in Switzerland to visit hubby's birth place and then we go to Italy.

I would like to visit Trieste and Latina. I stayed in refugee camps there at the age of five...

We are considering Bellagio, Florence, and Rome and we need to travel back to Paris to spend our last day October 15 with our daughter who is studying there for a semester. We fly out of Paris on the 16th around noon.

My main question is about transportation...

Our initial plan was that we would rent a car together with another couple (our friends) in Paris and drive throughout our stay.

I am concerned about:

*the size of car we would probably need to fit our 4 carryons in the trunk

*the problem of having to always park the car if there are very few places to park.

*language barrier ... none of us speak french or Italian...

etc... etc... etc..

do you have any thoughts or suggestions? would appreciate your perspective...

thank you... marym

marym64, since you are responding to a post from April 2004, you may want to post your own thread with your own questions. It'll probably get answered sooner since we don't know if Henry is still out there to respond to your questions.

wonderful report thank you. I am taking my 9 year old daughter in June to Italy our itinerary looks like this.
Rome land
Tuscany
Sorrento
Rome then home to New York.
Do you have any suggestions as to where we can stay on our drive down from Rome to Sorrento. I want to stay somewhere passed Rome but between sorrento.
Thank you.

Wendy,
Sorry no suggestions as I've never driven that route. I usually take the train for long distances. Trains are easier on kids and much easier on me.
