Do you think this is a good deal?

I do a ton of traveling for work, so i frequently use the internet for booking all kinds of things. However, it has always been kind of a pain to get my airline miles when i booked flights online. Today i saw a reuters article saying that orbitz is now giving 1000 bonus miles to people who book US air flights throught their flights. This seems like a great deal, especially if it causes a price war among the arilines with ariline miles.... do you think that this is a good deal, or do you think there is some kind of catch?

ps. here is the link to reuters

I think the catch is that you have to fly US Air....

If you do "tons" of flying for work you should stick to one airline when possible. If you do not have a corporate agency and corporate discount with the airlines, you should get miles and bonus miles by booking at the airline website.
Once you reach the premium FF status you will get double miles... like I do.
No website bonus equals what I get through my agency and preferred carrier.

Sweet... on a hunch I checked some of your messages and I am sure you work for Orbitz as every single message points to Orbitz.
I don't have a problem with that but it would be nice if we KNEW you worked for Orbitz so we can ask you Orbitz specific questions and possibly you can help some of the people out there with Orbitz customer service issues.

TxTravelPro, I believe you are right.

He/she sure seems to be promoting orbitz in every post....

Either way there is nothing special about this "deal". Most airlines give you bonus miles for booking online and then often additional miles for checking in online. Unless this is your carrier of choice--who cares? I get the same from aa.com (my carrier).

Pretty sad if TxTravelPro is correct.

So what's the story, sweet_thang? If you have an excuse, better offer it up now or everyone will assume you're here for solicitation purposes only.

BTW, 1000 FFM's is worth a whole $10.00.
That's not exactly worth jumping up and down about.

I scanned through sweet's posts, they ALL mentioned Orbitz.

Some of my favorites:

"i dont know if they signed some new deals or what, but their rates seem lower recently."

"On my trip back from sedona last week there were 2 kids sitting up in first class. Of course i only know this because i simply walked past them on the way to my innexpensive business class tickets from orbitz"

Sorry, I just really get a kick out of this. Pretty suspicious...

love

Well, Sweet...? It looks like you are busted.
Come clean, now.
What department do you work in?
Enquiring minds want to know...

No, i do not work for orbitz... in fact i work for a small real estate firm in New Orleans... we develop Wallgreens drugstores all across the country ... I graduated from UNC 6 years ago, and i grew up in wilmington... I may mention orbitz a lot, i use them a lot... i am a creature of habit... if you all want to jump on me, that is fine... i can take a punch.. i think it is a little uncalled for... I also talk about costa rica a lot, and barbabdos, and the dominican republic... do i somehow work for them as well... the travel website that shall not be mentioned is just the first one that comes to mind when i post online... i will now refrain from mentining them in the future if that will make you all happy

I just looked through some of sweet's posts and I'd never guess that she works for Orbitz. She offers good travel advice. As an "ElCheapo" myself, I often praise Priceline - I've gotten some amazing deals with them, but I don't work for them.

I'd say we have more people here "working" for Priceline than Orbitz!
