Think you know your road signs (picture quiz)? Please test...

I need some help please...would you mind trying my road signs test? If there are errors, or if you have suggestions, I would be most grateful:

http://www.hidden-italy.com/car/italianroadsigns.html

Even if you have not driven in Italy or plan to tour there, you're probably likely to know the answers to this pictorial quiz on road signs.

Or do you?

You can decide whether to take the easy or harder version for some questions - there are 10 and it won't take more than a couple of minutes.

The target to beat is 50 points and it's both fun and educational.

Many thanks - Hidden Italy editorial team.

Nice test and I chose the "hard" path and only missed one on first try (the no hunting). I am not fluent in Italian but do have a basic grasp of both Italian and Spanish so can muddle my way through lots of things.

Thanks it was fun!

Got all of them (the hard ones) right at first attempt but forgot to count the points.
No, I'm not Italian.

The test results would have been more reflective of our comprehension if there had been a time limit to answer... About the time it takes to drive past one of these signs on the road. Since I'm not fluent in Italian, I definitely would have scored lower on the signs with words without lots of time to think.

Fun test. I speak no italian and did the "hard version". Got the first 9 correct and #10 got on my second attempt - so total score 57. But at driving speeds I probably would have missed several.

There is one error on your instruction page:

(Easy) question at 1st attempt = 3
(Easy) question at 2nd attempt = 2
(Easy) question at 3rd attempt = 1
Hard question at 1st attempt = 6
Hard question at 2nd attempt = 3
Hard question at <b><u>1st</u></b> attempt = 1 (should be 3rd attempt)

Another suggestion - maybe repeat the scoring scale on the last page after question 10. After taking the whole quiz, some may forget how they should have scored it.

Hi PJ,

Took your &quot;hard&quot; test.

Liked it.

Got all but 2.

The hunting sign seems a little at odds with the rest of the traffic related signs, unless it means no shooting at animals from the window of a moving car.

I don't speak a word of Italian (well less than 10 words) and did reasonable. However, as others have stated, I would have fared far worse if I had to interpret the signs while driving in an unknown area, on the wrong side of the road, with local traffic behind me honking the horn.

Yes, I got them. The hunting one is everywhere on the island of Elba where we used to go every summer for years and years. My kids were often baffled by it.

I agree that a time limit is more realistic. And I forgot to keep track, so I don't know my score. I missed 2, hard ones, I think.

Problem is, when faced with the signs in Italy, one does not have some English &quot;prompts&quot; alongside to help you guess. I don't know how you get around that.

How do you say piece of cake in Italian? Got all the hard ones right on the first try (but years of studying Italian do pay off).

Dear Fodorites,

Sincere thanks for your brilliant and most useful feedback. I'm delighted to see that many of you enjoyed the test, or found it useful. Nobody has actually posted their high scores - would you post them please (I'll record them from here or use the contacts form at:
http://www.hidden-dublin.com/misc/myform2.php

I have achieved my goal to educate and entertain but it's by no means perfect. Briefly:
Jean - great idea about the time limit idea for maximum challenge.
janisj - well done - I will correct that later.
speckles - the hunting sign was to make the test different. The test is for road signs, not exclusively for traffic/driving.
StCirq - my Italian is not perfect but &quot;C'e un pezza di torta&quot; might work!

Have a great weekend - pjd.

This is good and fun.

I got them all but 2, and one of those I REALLY knew but fooled myself into giving the wrong answer.

The first question does not offer a difficulty specification.

Some (<i>e.g.</i> 4) do not show the entire sign until the answer page.

A context would be helpful for some, such as &quot;this sign might be seen on a warehouse.&quot;

Dear all,

Following your most helpful suggestions and encouragement I have uploaded the site. Additionally I have updated the &quot;Hall of Fame&quot;:
http://www.hidden-italy.com/car/_hall_of_fame.html

Do let me know where you are from - conversely, tell me if you would like your name removed.

All the best,
pjd.
