Where to stay (Airbnb?) in Geneva in June with a car

We will be visiting Geneva for 3 nights in June. We will have a rental car. We are 3 adults (including two seniors with limited mobility). Please recommend a nice neighborhood to stay (Airbnb) where parking is not a major issue. Bonus: Would love to be somewhere where I can catch an easy train into old town if I need to. or walk to shopping / restaurants.

In case anyone hasn't been following along -- here is the original thread: Switzerland itinerary help – 80-year-old parents (limited mobility, wheelchair)

Sorry but IMO this isn't a great idea. It is your trip of course and you obviously decided to go with your original plan and ignore everyone's advice/suggestions. I do feel bad for your parents

Gerneva city center just before the beginning of the G7 conference at Evian?
That might be the hell with non authorized left wing demonstrations, street battles with the police, fires and explosions in the city center, police controls everywhere.......

Airbnb will only have a lift if in a new building. Anything with charm and character will be old, with stairs. Possibly stairs up multiple levels. A hotel might work better for those without good mobility.

If this is the same bunch looks like they are just doubling down and blasting ahead on their own in spite of experience and cautions from many here. Ignore this advice at your peril. Your poor, poor parents. Run ragged. And a rental car, no less...in Switzerland, with 80-year-olds. Jeez. Good luck.

Aside from seeming to contradict all the advice already given, the choice of Geneva seems bizarre to me. I enjoyed Geneva more than many Fodorites, but it certainly doesn't seem to fit the goals you outlined in your longer post. I have to wonder what, exactly, is driving your plans.

@janisj: Thanks for bringing the OP's original post into play for this thread.

Just to be clear

1. Car is for the entire trip of swizerland. Parents cannot travel light, we will need a place to rest/sleep/nap in the afternoon, need to take a portable wheel chair.
2. I simply need to park the car in Geneva two nights.

I should clarify that the bases are :

11 (reset day), 12 and 13th night: Geneva
14, 15th night: Lucern
16, 17, 18, 19 : Gündlischwand

So we have 3 bases

Coming from the U.S., you will not b safe to drive for at least 36 hours after you land. Not safe for you, not safe for your parents, not safe for anyone else on the roads.

As k_marie noted on your other thread (post #28), swiss rail offers luggage forwarding options.

You will need a large car to take all the luggage.

Can you maybe ask the mods to combine your threads? It is a bit confusing to have two threads that are discussing the same trip, the same suggestions, and the same itinerary

Use the orange triangle.

Three bases still seems very ambitious to me with the time you have. Especially given their age, their limitations and their luggage. Actually, this sounds like a nightmare. Do you really want to handle all of that luggage back and forth for them 3+ times? Actually closer to 5 given airport to/from. Even if you find places with a lift. Make it easier on yourself - judging from my calculation of your age, you do not want this to be the thing that causes a future back/knee surgery yourself...

I am not sure what tour options there are for what you want to see, but maybe look into small group or even private tours from Geneva/Montreaux. I think it would reduce the hassle considerably.

Lots of luggage AND a wheelchair... by which I'm sure you mean transfer chair with four small wheels and not a standard wheelchair with two large and two small wheels. My mother occasionally needs a transfer chair which I can lift and put in the trunk of my car. It weighs about 20 pounds and when collapsed fits easily in my trunk. I wouldn't be able to lift a standard wheelchair high enough to put in the trunk, and even when collapsed it wouldn't fit in my trunk anyway. Most weigh close to 40 pounds. And you'll be pushing that extra 40 pounds everywhere you take your mother.

If you're definitely getting a car, you might want to explain your needs to the people at Auto Europe and see what vehicle category they suggest.

In case you haven't driven in Switzerland before: If your rental car doesn't have a vignette, you'll need to buy one. You should study mundane things like road markings, signage and parking regulations. Public transport has priority in almost every situation.
