Reopening of a historic tavern in Madrid

Los Gabrieles tavern, founded in 1907 in the Barrio de Las Letras (Literary Quarter), was for almost a century a meeting place for bullfighters, flamenco artists, bohemians, and aristocrats. Among its centuries-old tiles and private rooms, flamenco singing, literary gatherings, bullfighters' meetings, and Ava Gardner's early mornings all mingled. Considered the "Sistine Chapel of tiles" for its outstanding decoration, it has reopened its doors after being closed for more than 20 years.

Los Gabrieles has undergone a comprehensive architectural, artistic, and heritage restoration project that has restored the historic ceramic ensemble and incorporated new contemporary works, complementing and enriching the original legacy of the establishment. This iconic tavern is once again a meeting point for all kinds of people; live music is a fundamental part of its offering, and the restaurant invites guests to enjoy cuisine that respects tradition. The word "gabrieles" is local slang for chickpeas.

Its extraordinary wine cellar stands out, offering by the glass, select sherries and lesser-known wines from the Madrid region, perfect for enjoying at the bar while admiring the magnificent tilework that covers the walls and has undergone careful restoration.
