Hi…what is the closest major airport to the Grand Canyon south rim? We are traveling from Las Vegas after spending a few days there to the Grand Canyon South Rim…what major airport do we take to fly back to NYC? Should we drive back to Las Vegas or Phoenix? Thanks in advance.

Closest commercial airport = FLG (Flagstaff)
Closest major airport = PHX

AA is the only airline that flies to Flagstaff, and only a few flights a day (from Phx (3/day) and Dallas (1/day). There may be more in summer, i don't know. There are direct flights from both LV and Phoenix to NYC.
So including the drive your total travel + wait time will be less even if you drive to PHX or LAS.

We took a small plane from the little airport in North Las Vegas as part of a tour that picked us up at our hotel, flew to an airport right near the rim, and bussed us to GC several years ago.

Check with the concierge at your place to see if they still do that or if there is a local pilot who does trips there
