Where to base for 1 week in Ireland?

Hi there,

I know the recommendation is often to base oneself near the Ring of Kerry or Dingle, and who doesn't love to look at beautiful dramatic coastal scenery, but a higher priority for us is variety, ie different terrains, villages, castles, historic sites, museums, etc. We'd also rather not have to move our base, although one move in the middle of the trip would be totally fine if that would be ideal from a sightseeing point of view. We just prefer a relaxed pace. We'll be traveling in April and will have a car.

Any thoughts or suggestions to share? Thanks for reading!

we stayed in a farm house in a small village in Ttipperary for 8 days -we chose that because it was near the places we wanted to see .We did day trips to Clare, the Burren, Cliffs of Moher Cork, and many other places

We have toured west Cork and strongly recommend it for the reasons you state. It is varied, engaging, full of interesting features, and not usually as busy as its Kerry neighbours. We stayed in Kinsale (possibly the most visited location mentioned in my response), and also Glengarrif - the latter was super as a base. For something memorable, a visit to Dursey island is great (as long as you don't mind cable cars). Castletownbear is fascinating and most of these west Cork villages have good seafood available in restaurants. You can also do Cork city and Blarney if desired.
