Advice re: 7 day itinerary for Melbourne
Hi,
my husband and I will be in Melbourne for 7 days this June. We love wildlife, good food, and art. Having said this, I am aware that seven days are not nearly enough to explore all these interests. Is attempting a two day trip to Kangaroo island in these seven days practical (and worthwhile) at all? Do not want to attempt it in a rushed manner. Plus, we would like to take two days out for the Great ocean road too. Thank you.

With a limit of seven days, I'd use three of those days to visit the Great Ocean Road and the towns along the way. Drive along the coast as far as Warrnambool or Port Fairy and return through the Grampians. Stay at Halls Gap overnight and you will be sure to see lots of kangaroos, probably koalas and other wildlife, plus great scenery.
Another suggestion is to visit the Healesville Sanctuary which specialises in Australia wildlife. About an hour's drive from the city and easy to get to if you are driving, pleasant scenery and a few wineries along the way if you want to sample some Australian wine. You could also do this as a coach tour.
For art, visit both venues of the National Gallery of Victoria. Traditional and European art in the St Kilda Road venue, and Australian art in Federation Square.
You would need to fly to Adelaide to connect with a Kangaroo Island tour. It would be a very tiring and very rushed trip and quite expensive. Better to spend your time in and around Melbourne.
I hope you enjoy your Melbourne visit.

Great suggestions above. I would skip Kangaroo Island as well, given you want to see something of Melbourne as well as the Great Ocean Road. You don't really have the time.
Lots of wildlife in and near Halls Gap and Healesville Sanctuary has all Australian native wildlife. If interested, you'll find feeding times for koalas, etc, so you can time your visit and see animals close up.

Thank you for your responses. You’ve provided good advice - will plan a visit to Kangaroo Island for our next, longer visit. Adding flight and road and ferry travel times, it’s not making sense at all. Noted your suggestions for Melbourne.
