Good Hotels in Manhattan
Hello,
We're planning a trip to NYC for the fall and are currently searching for a hotel. Foremost, we need a clean, comfortable room that assures a good night's sleep. We'd like a kitchenette, and a view would be icing on the cake. Have looked at places near Central Park (east and west sides), also Chelsea. Can anyone make recommendations (based on experience). Cost range: $400 -$1,000 (would like to pay less, but we're beginning to realize that nothing is inexpensive in Manhattan.

Year ago (and by that I really meant many years), my parents and I stayed at the Affinia suites on the East Side. Looks like it is now part of Sonesta called The Gardens. All the rooms are suites and come with full kitchen. We had a really nice stay. It's in a quiet residential neighborhood. https://nyc.sonesta.com/the-gardens/

Why a kitchenette when there are so many good restaurants for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. If a kitchenette was not needed I could recommend a couple hotels in the Seaport area that we have stayed at recently. They are very clean and they are in a very safe area. Good luck with your search!

Agree about the kitchenette. Are you really going to be cooking on a stove in NYC, or perhaps you could make do with only a small frog (??)
The Seaport would be a very good area; the island is narrow at the far south and you can walk to many different neighborhoods from there.

The Shelbourne Murray Hill on Lexington has kitchens, we liked the location, a short walk to Grand Central. The rooms towards the back facing East were extremely quiet, we were in a one bedroom which had a sofa bed in the living area. It’s been a while so don’t know what prices are now.
