US citizens visa for Mozambique
Hi! I am looking for some clarification from someone who has been in 2025. When I try to look this up, pretty much every resource will say 'no, visa not required for US citizens' but then right underneath it under something like' further notes' it will state 'Travelers must register on the eVisa platform at least 48 hours prior to travel and pay a processing fee of 650 MZN'. Even embassy websites seem to be contradictory.

- U.S. citizens are required to obtain a visa to enter Mozambique.
- Pre-Departure: It is recommended that travelers acquire the appropriate visa prior to departing for Mozambique.
- eVisa Platform: Mozambique has an electronic visa (eVisa) system where travelers can apply online before their trip.
- Documentation: Ensure you have a passport valid for at least six months from your date of entry into Mozambique, with at least two blank pages for the visa.
I hope that this information will help you.

There was a lot of conflicting information online about whether a visa is needed for US citizens traveling to Mozambique. Most airlines use a system called Timatic to determine whether or not a visa is required. You can go to iatatravelcentre dot com to check
When I entered my flight and US passport information, it said a visa was required.
Whether or not it is actually required really doesn't matter, so to avoid an argument with a gate agent, I applied online for the evisa.
It ends up it's actually an electronic travel authorization, which is generated immediately after you complete the online application.
The application requires uploading your passport, proof of onward travel, proof of financial means, proof of accommodation and maybe something else I'm forgetting. Based on how quickly the eta was issued, I'm guessing as long as anything is uploaded, you'd get the eta.
Anyway, I now have an official printout to hand any gate agent who insists, rightly or wrongly, that a visa is required to board the flight, even though it's not a visa but just an eta. You don't pay anything for the eta, but pay on arrival.
I'm not going to Mozambique for another month, so will try to come back to let you know how things went.
