How many days would you recommended for Sicily ?
Hello you all!
My husband and I will be celebrating our 30th anniversary and we plan to go on a 2.5-week trip beginning in April’s last week / May to Southern Italy (Sicilia) and Egypt (I am posting a modified version of this message there)
I would love to read your recommendations on the days to travel through Sicily. We love food, slow travel (at least a bit more than the average traveler), history (my husband), art (me), and learning more about different cultures.
We usually rent a car, choose a base go to different towns from there, and then switch bases. So, that’s what we are planning for Italy.
Thanks in advance!
Barbara
P.S We have 3-4 additional days reserved for stops in our flight from Peru and to recover from the jet lag.

For Sicily, I recommend at least 17 days for the highlights, more if you prefer a leisurely pace. BUT of course it depends on your interests. A good guide book, such as the Rough Guide, should serve you well.

We had 12 nights in Sicily in April 2022 and there was much we couldn’t see. Our itinerary was Palermo 5N, Agrigento 1, Ortygia 4 and Catania 2. We had visited Mt Etna and the north eastern part on a previous trip. But still several other places we had to miss.
If your 2.5 weeks is for both Sicily and Egypt it could be rather rushed. And on a completely different note remember Egypt will be pretty hot in April/May.

We spent 2 weeks in Sicily in September 2022. This was barely enough to cover our priorities-theres so much to see and experience. With 2.5 weeks, I'm not sure that leaves meaningful time for Egypt. The Lonely Planet Sicily was useful reading as well.

I’m mot sure I understand you Sicily objectives
if it is indeed slow travel then pick one or two locations amd stay 4-5 nights in each
if it is to see different areas but still not rush, pick maybe 3 deatinations at 3-4 nights each
if it is to span the entire island and/or to see as much as possible, well that doesn’t count as slow in my book and I’m not sure I can help you.

If you have 2.5 weeks I would certainly spend them all in Sicily. That might scratch the surface......
I would certainly fly into Palermo and out from Catania to negate backtracking.
Palermo requires a bare minimum of four full days sightseeing and Catania a bare minimum of one overnight stay and one full day for sightseeing, not including visiting Mount Etna.
Places I would urge you not to miss would include: Siracusa--minimum 2 nights so one very full day for rambling.
OR you could base there and have a day trip to Noto but I personally do not like day trips....
Ragusa Ibla
Trapani
There are world class archeological sites and mosaics but your timing would depends on your interests in these......
That is only a very bare sketch....2.5 weeks is NOT enough time to cover the island PLUS Egypt.
I don't understand where Peru comes in...is that your home country?
