I'm traveling alone, starting the trip in Prague for several days, plan to spend one or two nights in Dresden. From there, Berlin. I would welcome hotel suggestions, mid range in the muesum district. Any comments/suggestions appreciated.

Couple things: the hotel market in Berlin can suffer from vast overcapacity (prices get slashed - - places are going empty) to peak event times (prices very high; places hard to find). It really does depend on your specific dates, but in November chances are you will get a good deal. A summer ago I used booking.com and found a place that was great, a block away from where my appointments were, with tram and U-Bahn, a short walk to Hackescher Markt, for like 60 Euro. Then, this past summer when I checked to meet friends staying near the 'museum district' the same hotel was four times that. If it were me I would definitely use Booking.com, and zoom in by location, and find a place with high ratings (8.0 or higher), close to public transportation, at reasonable prices, and you will be in great shape.

The other main thing is staying in 'the museum district', which is essentially the old center of Berlin near Unter den Linden. To be honest, the architecture there is terrible - - all very modern square concrete nothingness. Walking down the city blocks in that area is tedious, and enervating. You might instead consider staying near Savignyplatz, or Kufuerstendamm, or another more neighborhoody neighborhood, and take the fast, efficient, ubiquitous, interesting and nice public transportation to any museum(s) you want to visit. The Hackescher Markt area, actually, might be best of both worlds - - both near to the main sights and with character - - but try to avoid staying near Friedrichstrasse or just south of Unter den Linden or near Potsdamer Platz - - these are, in a 'feng shui' sense, depressing, dead end, sterile modern wasteland areas.

We had a similar experience in Berlin a couple of years ago in November- we managed to get an excellent deal on the Sofitel on the Kufuerstendamm and ended up paying mid-range prices on a hotel that was anything but! From there we could easily get anywhere we needed on the U-bahn and S-bahn trains, with the added advantage of being close to all the eating options on the ku’damm at night.
