Termoli—-has anyone visited there?
We are (hopefully) heading to Italy in March, flying into Milan and making our way down to Puglia via Venice, all by train. I would like to break up the train journey between Venice and Monopoli with an overnight stay somewhere along the train route. Looking at photos and Street View, I came across Termoli in Molise, on a scenic rocky stretch of coast, with a tiny old town and some lovely small hotels. Most of the other towns between there and Rimini looked very resort-y, with more large concrete block hotels than small charming ones. It looks like the old town area is an easy walk from the train station.
It was photos like that these that caught my eye:
Locanda San Giorgio Ristorante Hotel centro storico porto turistico Termoli
That, and the availability of Albergo Diffuso lodging, which is very appealing.

So I am curious if anyone here has visited or stayed there, and has anything to say—-positive or negative. Thank you!

My husband and I stayed one night in Termoli in May of 2019. We were driving down the East Coast and decided to stop there for the night. We liked the town a lot. We were only there from late afternoon till the next morning but did enjoy walking through the town and having dinner at a small seafood place overlooking the water.
Not sure if there’s enough to see to stay longer but we definitely enjoyed our short time there. We stayed at a fairly large hotel across the street from the beach; good spot for a quick walk into town.

Termoli is perfect for half a day (from dinner until lunch or so). Termoli is the starting point of the ferries to the Tremiti Islands, a real gem!
As an alternative, you may also check Ascoli Piceno.
Pesaro looks nice too and isn't touristy at all in February.
For a longer break, you could also visit the Frassassi Caves, close to Ancona.
