Reworking 2020 Alaska Travel to Include Nome and Kotzebue

We're among those having to make alternate plans for Alaska travel in July 2020 given the Alaska ferry uncertainty. I had planned using the ferries to travel in several Alaskan cities and then to Prince Rupert for a jaunt up into Stewart/Hyder. So, on to Plan B. What IS set in stone is a stay at Glacier Bay Lodge over the dates of our 40th wedding anniversary and my 65th birthday. It's reserved and paid for.

Taking some advice to another poster from Gardylou (thank you!), I'm thinking of using Alaska Air to visit Kotzebue and Nome before Glacier Bay, and then on to Sitka before heading home. The Saver rates are already about gone and so I need to book what flights I need quickly. Question - is 1 night in Kotzebue sufficient? Or would 2 be better? DH mainly wants to just view the Arctic Ocean, but I would like to have a little time to take in some of the Native culture. I have so far booked one night at the Nullagvik Hotel.

Nome - thinking about 4 nights, since we'd be arriving in the evening. Is that too much? Interests are wildlife and mining history. I have booked lodging at the Dredge 7 Inn.

One way or another, either 1 / 4 or 2 / 3 night split between Kotzebue and Nome.

Sitka - thinking 3 nights?

We have 3 nights in Glacier Bay Lodge, a little wriggle room in Juneau for unforeseen events, and can take up to 2-1/2 weeks total. We'd fly from Orlando. Any thoughts would be most appreciated, thanks.

I'd think one "night" in Kotzebue would be okay, depending on what flight times you get. (Sometimes the schedule is hard to figure out, as the planes fly from Anchorage to Kotzebue via Nome on some flights, nonstop on others.) It's a small town and you can get around easily.

Four nights (counting a late arrival on night no. 1) ought to be fine for Nome. If you want to rent a vehicle while you're there in order to explore the road system, I'd get on that right away. I believe the Dredge 7 Inn is one of the suppliers of vehicles; the hotel is located pretty far from town, so transportation in Nome is something you should focus on. (There are taxis.)

Three nights in Sitka would be okay, again, depending on flight times. A lot has to do with what you plan to do while you're there.

Thanks, Gardyloo! Yes, I'm finding the flight schedule coordination a real brain twister. Right now I'm looking at a 2p arrival in Kotzebue and a 6:40p departure. Arrival in Nome about 7:30p. Do you have another lodging recommendation in Nome? Otherwise, yes, I was going to jump on a car rental from Dredge and make sure of the taxi schedules.
