Help! 2-4 day gap on 11 night itinerary - Northern Ireland

Sixth Trip to Ireland.
First time visiting Northern Ireland and northwest counties of Ireland.
Will nap frequently on the 1st day's drive from DUB to Downpatrick.

Need help with what to do after we leave Bushmills. Small towns preferred. Not fond of cities.

Clifden is an idea but open to better suggestions. I have already been there twice.

Definitely need to keep the 3 days at the end in County Clare.

Here are my planned overnight towns / Proposed itinerary:
(please excuse the crazy formatting)
  • Saturday, May 18, 2019 land in Dublin Airport
  • Sunday, May 19, 2019 Downpatrick, UK
  • Monday, May 20, 2019 Downpatrick, UK
  • Tuesday, May 21, 2019 Bushmills, UK
  • Wednesday, May 22, 2019 Bushmills, UK
  • Thursday, May 23, 2019 ?
  • Friday, May 24, 2019 ?
  • Saturday, May 25, 2019 ? Clifden, Co. Connemara
  • Sunday, May 26, 2019 ? Clifden, Co. Connemara
  • Monday, May 27, 2019 Falls Hotel, Ennistimon, Co. Clare
  • Tuesday, May 28, 2019 Falls Hotel, Ennistimon, Co. Clare
  • Wednesday, May 29, 2019 Falls Hotel, Ennistimon, Co. Clare
  • Thursday, May 30, 2019 Depart Shannon Airport

I’m sure it is on your list but the Inishowen 100 is my favorite scenic drive in Ireland. The old fort Grianan of Aileach at the south end has fabulous views.

Dunfanaghy is a nice little town.

Enniscrone has a hippy vibe for a beach town.

We we really enjoyed Lough Eske hotel.

Clifden is is a nice little town too with some good dining. If you want smaller, Roundstone was also quite quaint and right on the water.

Donegal and Sligo are lovely - scenic and not as developed as other parts of Ireland.

The Inishowen 100 was not on my list but it is now. Will head there after Bushmills.
Great suggestion. perhaps overnight in Derry area

thinking that we might bypass Connemara peninsula since I have been there 3 times.

Thinking about not booking any more overnights and just winging it until we get to County Clare. This would mean four or five nights where we would just try our luck in the different towns as we make our way south.

I'm sure you'll be fine winging it. Driving through Donegal and Sligo, we saw many signs for B&Bs.
