Which neighborhood of Copenhagen to stay in?
Husband and I (late 50s) are going to Copenhagen for 4 nights in early June. We are interested in staying in an apartment or even a room in someone's apartment (since we are happy to meet and interact with local residents), but we can't figure out what part of town. Looking at airbnb is making our heads spin. Ideally we'd like to be walkable to sightseeing (we love to walk) but not staying in the thick of the tourist crush. Would rather be in a residential area with charm/old architecture and markets, cafes, restaurants, etc. For reference, when we visited Amsterdam last year, we stayed in the Jordaan and loved it.
Christianshavn seems to fit the bill. What about Vesterbro? Other Fodor's posters have recommended staying in Nyhavn, but is that more crowded and noisy? Of course, if anyone has a recommendation of a particular apartment/host, that would be most welcome, too.

Christianshavn is very nice, so is Frederiksberg. Nørrebro is fine too. Hellerup is a very nice suburb, so is Charlottenlund, Klampenborg or Skøvshoved, upmarket residential areas of Copenhagen. North of city centre are the best areas, west & south of the city not so nice eg Vesterbro although some like it there.

We stayed in this apartment and really liked it:
The photo is geotagged to indicate the exact location. Click on the left arrow for more pictures of the apartment. We did not rent through AirBnB but rather through a similar local agency. We moved to the Nørrebro neighborhood to a bigger apartment to share with cousins, and it was within walking distance of the open market near the Nørreport station. This apartment was found through a different local rental agency.

Thanks to both of you for your good suggestions. We booked a nice-looking apartment in Christianshavn. Now we have 5 months to dream about it and get in shape for all the stair climbing. It'll be good preparation for our next stop--the Swiss Alps.
