Gulet trip in Turkey
Hello. I am hoping someone out there can give us some guidance.
We are 3 families chartering a gulet for 7 days in June/July next year. We will be sailing in Turkey and are trying to decide on which route to sail. Our children are all adults so we do not need to cater for young children ito what we do/ where we go.
The gulet is privately owned and the owner/captain of the gulet is open to any route that we would like to do. He has suggested Bodrum to Marmaris. We are looking for calm (and warm) water, beautiful coves and quaint villages. Will we find these on this route (after we've made the 2 hour open sea crossing from Bodrum to Knidos).
Also, I have been told that because of the prevailing winds it is better to sail from west to east. Is this correct?
I look forward to hearing from those out there who know this area.

East from Knidos and South from Marmaris to Dalyan, Gocek and Fethiye is an excellent route. Countless coves and mostly calm seas.
Some interesting archeology within reach also.

@otherchelebi - Thanks so much for this information.
If we sail the whole route from Knidos to Fethiye (as you suggest) will we still have plenty of time available to also go on land to discover little villages and wonderful restaurants (eg Ogun's Place) or should we rather start from Marmaris?
We only have 7 nights which in effect is really only 5 full days of sailing.

The route between Knidos and Marmaris, i.e. the Southern Shore of Datca peninsula is excellent.
That way, you need not go all the way to Marmaris and its busy bay with concrete shores. So starting from Bodrum will be fine and the crossing from Bodrum an acceptable handicap.

It just occurred to me to warn you of bees and sun allergy.
It will help if you start taking something like Claritine a few days before you embark to build an antihistamine buffer and also have something handy against bee stings with you, just in case.
Which brings me to the recommendation of honey in Datca region, they have excellent thyme honey you can get from the villagers. Their honeydew honey (pine honey) is also good.
