Prague.New Years day walk ..... an Invitation to join me.
I am in Prague over the New year with a friend from my walking group. we will be doing a clear the cobwebs type walk on New years day and invite anyone who fancies a pleasant stroll to join us.
Leaving from Hradcanska Metro stop at 12 noon (meeting point outside Dejvicka Sokolovna bar) we will walk from there to Stromovka park and through the park over the river ( little ferry) to Troja chateau and the Zoo, bus can be got back from the zoo to the city.Total walking time will be around 90 minutes and it is very easy walking on pavements and good paths , no hills at all though a couple of very gentle slopes . If places are open we may be able to stop for refreshment.
I will make sure anyone on the walk will get back to the city centre at the end of the walk. We want to be back in the city centre in plenty of time for the New years day fireworks . I have had over 45 years experience of organising and leading walks and well over 20 years experience of visiting Prague. No fees whatsoever just a group of friends enjoying a stroll.
If you want to join us just let me know. no special footwear needed just sensible comfortable shoes for walking in and wrap up warm. make sure you also have some Public transport tickets to get back into the city.

no we will be in the Hells Bells bar for the bells but if Sokolovna is open I might just get there for a wee quick one before I start the walk, great wee pub, bit rough around the edges but a good friendly place. Also it is very obvious from 200 yards away so an ideal meeting point.

unclegus, I won't be in Prague either over New year [our one and only trip fell between Christmas and New year which is a great time to visit Prague, BTW] but this is a great idea. I hope you get some takers.
I have very fond memories of it - the streets being kept clear of snow by an army of ladies wielding brooms, the Christmas Markets, the bar we went into that had a bust of Lenin in one corner and a photo of Dubček in the other, the Russian couple we met who had journeyed there by train from Moscow so that the wife could see where her husband had worked before the Russians lost power [we were pretty sure he was KGB], the meals with 4 or 5 different sorts of carbohydrate.
Enjoy your walk.
