At best the report is neutral, leaning towards bad news. Most of the gains came at the expense of China, as Mexican wages remain pathetically low. Purchasing power for Mexican workers is declining, so Mexico's GDP is on the decline as well. The average hourly manufacturing wage is $2.30 US. As the article indicates, 57% of the workforce is employed informally, which means they pay no taxes, which are badly needed to improve Mexico's infrastructure, public safety, etc. Plus, those in that sector are often subject to extortion from cartels or cartel wanna-bees. Then there's minimum wage of under $5 US per day, which is still what 12% of Mexicans are earning. Mexicans are no different than anyone else; they want to buy IPads, have clean drinking water, to be safe, and to have a government that at least appears honest. That's not happening, and until it does, expect immigration to the north to continue.
An interesting note is how unemployment is the lowest in 2 of the poorest states, Oaxaca and Guerrero. So, low unemployment does not necessarily translate to prosperity.

No doubt they will explain why this is bad news.

Ok, stew, I'll bite.
You probably should have made the effort to read the comments instead of just glancing at a misleading headline and then posting the link.
Here's what was posted:
"The way that they did this” – without public consultation – “raises suspicion,” he added.
“The new poverty numbers are certainly going to fall by a significant amount and it’s not due to improvements, it’s not due to government action, it’s not due to anything. It’s due to the way Inegi has carried out this survey,” he said.
The entire link:

The link from Reuters:

Most telling of all, is how the survey was carried out-respondents were also given, along with the survey, their 'cartillas sociales', an itemized accounting of the social benefits they're receiving with the express intent to influence how they'd respond to the survey, what with 2018 being an election year. Here's the link in Spanish, though I doubt, stew, you'd even bother to machine translate it. Though I know you know how.

And your post has what to do with travel...?

As expected the chief bear baited had to twist facts to his very strange point of view again. So sad!

Here's another positive story that I am sure one of the Deadhead Dicks will disparage.

Please keep in mind that good economic news in Mexico (and for Mexicans) is good news for travelers with less discontentment, anger & hopefully crime. This information is from Mexico;s leading English Language news source & is for consumption (Good & Bad) for visitors & Expats,

'good news for travelers with less discontentment, anger & hopefully crime.' Where in the world did you pull that from, Milli? Using that logic, Mexico in 2017 should be safer, but instead is suffering the worst violence in 20 years. You do know that this is a public forum; why do you embarrass yourself with stuff like this?
MND is OK for fluff articles like the one on Mineral De Monte; you should go, stew, it's charming place. I might include it on a trip report someday. But if they (MND) ever want to be taken seriously, then they also need to post follow up articles from El Universal as well, such as the one I linked. The quoted columnist has been predicting a fraudulent poverty report for months. In the meantime, keep posting the fake news, and I'll keep telling you what it really means.
Oh, and be sure to bookmark that article and show it to your waitress at Senor Frog's next time you're in PV. She'll be thrilled to learn that she's not as poor as she thought she was.

Why would we move stew, when we've still got 10 months left on our lease? When that's up, who knows? We like Queretaro, but we really liked Zacatecas, too. And we found Pachuca and surrounds intriguing. Or, we might return to San Miguel. Or, I could do like you, and post a pretend home city in my profile. Remember how Milli Vanilli used to pretend to sing?

With all the tragedy in Mexico and Caribbean it is really a sick individual who attempts to keep this stupid feud going.
You really need to get a life Amigo!

Couldn't stand it, could you. No one forced you to post. So spare me your pretend sanctimony.
The link below shows you and anyone else how and to which banks and accounts they can send donations, though I doubt you will. Another way to aid people in the affected region(s) is to visit them or nearby areas when conditions permit.
