cabfare from Midway to North Shore Suburbs

Will be in Chicago in a couple of months
for a wedding. Family lives on North Shore.
Much cheaper to fly into Midway. Does anyone
have an idea how much a cab would run from
Midway to Highland Park? Thanks.

Uma,

This is just a pure guess, but it is based on some facts. Midway to downtown Chicago will run about $25. Downtown to Highland Park is probably about 1.5-2X the distance of the airport to downtown, so, based on that I would guess somewhere around $75. Tou my also look into a private/limo car. It may cost the same, but it will at least be more comfortable.

You could also take the El to downtown, switch to another one which will take you to Evanston. From there I imagine the taxi will be no more than $20. The train will run around $2.

One thing for sure, it's a very long way from Midway to Highland Park. O'hare is probably 1/2 of the distance.

Midway is a long way from Highland Park - at least 20 miles, through the worst of the city traffic. Americantaxi.com charges a flat rate of $52.50, plus tip. They are a very reliable company.

A much cheaper alternative is to take the Orange Line EL train to the Loop. Get off at Washington and Wells, and walk west two blocks to the Ogilvie/Northwestern Station. Commuter trains leave hourly for Highland Park from 6 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., more frequently during rush hours and less frequently on weekends. Total cost would be about $7.

has links to all the transport sites. The CTA (Chicago transit authority)has maps for the Orange Line El train. Metra is the commuter rail system; look under Chicago-Kenosha for Highland Park stops. Please note: there will be stairs to negotiate at the Loop El station, so be sure you can handle your suitcase.

Depending on your other plans, you might think about renting a car. Driving from Midway to Highland Park is almost all expressway, and really not that hard--you could take 55 back to downtown and hook up with 90-94, or go west and hook up with 294 North, getting off at Deerfield Road. The second way would probably be easier, and depending on traffic could take as little as 45 minutes. Yes, you could get there cheaply taking a combo of els and Metra train, but it is a LONG walk to the Orange line station at Midway, and a SLOW trip downtown, and lots of steps etc. to negotiate, which may be hard depending on how encumbered you are with luggage. And then once you are IN Highland Park, it will not be easy to get anywhere without a car.

Only $52.50 from Midway to Highland Park. Thats a great deal. In rush hour that's probably a 2 to 3 hour ride.
